Following a five round unanimous decision over Urijah Faber earlier this month, UFC bantamweight champ Dominick “The Dominator” Cruz will return to the Octagon on Oct. 1 to defend his title against Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson at UFC on Versus 6.

The UFC confirmed the match-up on Friday.

Cruz (18-1) began his reign as bantamweight champ in March 2010, prior to the WEC-UFC merger, with a second round TKO over Brian Bowles. Since then, he has racked up three straight successful title defenses.

Johnson (10-1) will be the fourth opponent to try and dethrone “The Dominator” from his roost atop the 135-pound division. “Mighty Mouse” has but one blemish on his record, a decision loss to Brad Pickett in March 2010 in what was his WEC debut.

Since then, he has knocked off four straight opponents, including a unanimous decision win over former bantamweight champ Miguel Torres in May.

The bout, which will broadcast LIVE on Versus, will be the first championship fight to air on “free TV” since Quinton “Rampage” Jackson defended his UFC light heavyweight title against Dan Henderson at UFC 75 in 2007.

UFC on Versus 6 is scheduled to take place Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. Refer ro ProMMAnow.com’s Upcoming Events page for the full fight card line-up as it is announced.
