USA Wrestling has announced that Xtreme Couture will host the 2011 U.S. Grappling World Team Trials on Aug. 5-7. Winners from the event will represent the U.S. in the FILA Grappling World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia on Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
Registration for the event is still available for $75. To register visit TrackWrestling.com.
Both events will feature competition in Gi and No Gi styles of grappling. Last year the U.S. claimed the No Gi title, while finishing second in Gi. In 2009, the country hosted the World Championships and swept the event.
The list of former competitors in the event includes several high profile MMA fighters such as Miesha Tate, Tara LaRosa, Ben Askren, Zach Makovsky, Cole Miller, Din Thomas and Jeff Monson.
FILA is the preeminent sanctioning body for Olympic wrestling styles: freestyle, women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman.
