LAS VEGAS – UFC 132: CRUZ vs. FABER takes place this evening at MGM Grand Garden Arena and is headlined with a bantamweight title fight featuring UFC 135-pound champion Dominick Cruz (17-1) who gets the opportunity to try and avenge the only loss on his record against former WEC featherweight champ Urijah Faber (25-4).

In the co-main event, Pride legend Wanderlei Silva (33-10-1, 1 NC) tries to build on his successful debut at middleweight as he takes on hard-hitting brawler Chris Leben (21-7).

Another highlight of the main card includes former light heavyweight champ and future Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz (16-8-1) who will literally be fighting for his UFC career when squares off with heavy-handed wrestler Ryan Bader (12-1).

Jeff Hougland vs. Donny Walker

Round 1 – Missed the first half of this round but from what I could tell it was back and forth, a lot of grappling and several submission attempts from both guys.

Round 2 – Inside leg kick from Hougland. Hougland with a couple combos but Walker covers up. Big leg kick from Hougland, again. Leg kick from both guys. Spinning backfist from Hougland. Leg kick. Again. Hougland staying very busy, out-pointing Walker tremendously at this point. Nice jab from Hougland, inside leg kick. Knee from Hougland. Walker mostly throwing power punches but Hougland blocking pretty much all of them thus far. Leg kick from Hougland. Left hook from both guys. Walker with a leg kick. Right hand and a leg kick from Walker, he slips to the ground but Hougland lets him up. Walker’s right eye is swollen and bloody. Hougland with several jabs. Walker with an inside leg kick. Hougland hurts him with a left hook and jumps into a guillotine choke with full guard. Thirty seconds left and it doesn’t look like he’s going to get it. He switches it to no-arm with about ten seconds left and Walker hangs on. Hougland 10-9.

Round 3 – Walker comes out aggressive, lands a right but Hougland tags him back. They clinch up against the cage. Nice knee to the body from Walker causes Hougland to shoot. Walker stuffs it and that knee may have really hurt Hougland, Walker pushes him onto his back. Hougland throws up an armbar. Walker picks him up and drops him on his head, frees himself from the armbar. Hougland with full guard as Walker pummels. Ref stands them up. Leg kick from Walker. Hougland with the jab. Walker tags him with a punch, Hougland shoots and Walker stuffs it, locks on a D’arce. Hougland sweeps and is now on top inside Walker’s full guard. Hougland with body body head punches and works the ground and pound with only 30 seconds to go. Walker staying busy with punches from the bottom. Hougland should have the round 10-9 and the fight.

Andre Winner vs. Anthony Njokuani

Round 1 – Lindsey Way is the new Octagon girl; won a Facebook contest. Njokuani with a nice body-head combo stuns Winner. Leg kick from Njokuani. Again. Inside leg kick from Njokuani, outside leg kick, knee to the body. Beautiful uppercut, hook from Njokuani. Head kick from Njokuani, blocked. Leg kick, leg kick from Njokuani. Head kick, blocked, spinning elbow. Winner swings, Njokuani counters with an uppercut. Leg kick from Njokuani, jab. Another nice uppercut to the body from Njokuani. Again. Njokuani hurts Winner and pours it on. Winner is out on his feet, trying to cover up but not fighting back. He finally grabs Njokuani’s arm, Njokuani takes him down but he somehow survives the round and gets back up. Yves Lavigne could have stopped the fight. Winner ate about 40 punches, kicks, and knees — a huge barrage, an onslaught of violence. 10-8 round for Njokuani.

Round 2 – Winner’s face is a mess. Leg kick from Njokuani. Left hook from Winner. Head kick from Njokuani. Clinch, knee from Njokuani. Inside leg kick from Njokuani. One two three head kick from Njokuani, knees to the face, Winner grabs on for the clinch. They separate. Njokuani slips a punch and counters with a big body shot, then a takedown. Winner gets right up, Njokuani clinches up against the cage. Ref separates them. Left hook from Winner. Leg kick from Njokuani. Inside leg kick from Njokuani. Head kick, blocked, inside leg kick. Leg kick from Njokuani. Front kick. 10-9 for Njokuani.

Round 3 – One two from Winner. Head kick from Winner, blocked. Leg kick from Njokuani, then a punch punch kick combo. Leg kick. One two from Njokuani. Winner looking for the big shot. Two minutes to go. Njokuani looking for the knee tap, but can’t get it. Clinched against the cage. Left hook from Winner. Njokuani fires back with a nice shot and a knee. Nice left from Njokuani. Winner swings big, Njokuani counters with a right. Ten seconds to go… Winner looking to end it with a Hail Mary shot — not happening. 10-9 for Njokuani for the round, and 30-26 for the fight.

Brad Tavares vs. Aaron Simpson

Round 1 – Jeff Monson is the ref — sorry, I mean Josh Rosenthal. Simpson shoots, presses Tavares to the cage. Simpson puts knees to his thighs. Tavares defending well. Simpson with some knees to the body and the crowd boos at the hug-fest. Ref finally separates them. Two minutes to go. Inside leg kick from Tavares, he then tags Simpson with a big one two that stuns him momentarily. Simpson with a leg kick, he then initiates the clinch against the cage. He tries to drag Tavares down, he touches the ground but doesn’t go to the mat. They trade some dirty boxing and knees. 10-9 for Simpson.

Round 2 – Big leg kick from Simpson but Tavares makes him pay with a nice punch combo. Tavares rushes forward and Simpson takes him down, they bounce up, Simpson stays on him clinched up. Simpson with some knees. Tavares with a knee to the body. Tavares now looking for the takedown, pushing Simpson to the cage. He drops levels for a double leg and gets a big slam but Simpson like a rubber ball bounces right up and locks on a choke, Tavares fights out of it. Simpson with a couple knees. One minute to go. It remains a stand-up grappling match. Simpson drops levels but can’t complete the takedown. 10-9 for Simpson.

Round 3 – Nice left hand from Simpson, he shoots, presses Tavares against the cage. Tavares escapes and bolts across the cage. Leg kick from Simpson, Tavares counters with punches. Simpson shoots, clinches, puts Tavares against the cage. Three minutes to go. Simpson tries to force the takedown but Tavares counters it nicely. Boos from the crowd at the pace. Simpson finally gets Tavares down to his knees but Tavares stands back up momentarily. Simpson drags him down again and Tavares pops back up. They remain clinched with a minute to go. Simpson drops levels, Tavares sprawls. Simpson might grind this thing out but it’s far from exciting. Leg kick from Tavares. Big right from Simpson, shoots, takedown. Tavares gets to his knees, gets up before the bell. 10-9 for the round 30-27 for Simpson.

Brian Bowles vs. Takeya Mizugaki

Round 1 – Yamasaki throws up a heart gang sign. Leg kick from Mizugaki. Right hook from Mizugaki. Bowles being cautious on the outside. He scores with a nice right to the body. Leg kick from Mizugaki. Bowles catches it but lets it go. Leg kick from Mizugaki skims off the side. Overhand right from Bowles doesn’t land solid. Overhand right from Mizugaki. Bowles moving into Mizugaki’s power hand. Right hand from Mizugaki, Bowles fires back and Mizugaki scores with a one two. Right hand from Mizugaki and both guys throw a punch combo. Bowles with a knee, they tie up with Mizugaki’s back to the cage. Less than a minute to go. Bowles back to the cage, he turns it around. Knees to the body from Bowles. Ref separates them. 10-9 Mizugaki.

Round 2 – Rory Singer in Bowles’ corner. One two, leg kick from Mizugaki. Left jab from Bowles, again. Right hand from Bowles. Jab again. Again. Jab from Mizugaki. Jab again from Bowles, again. Nice right from Mizugaki. Bowles using that jab nicely. Big leg kick from Mizugaki knocks Bowles off balance. Bowles with a one two and Mizugaki fires back. Big leg kick from Mizugaki, Bowles catches it and lands a big right and Mizugaki goes to the ground. Bowles jumps on his back, locks on a body triangle and is looking for the RNC. One minute to go as Bowles tries to open him up with punches. Mizugaki with wrist control, and trying to spin, but the body triangle preventing it. 10-9 for Bowles.

Round 3 – Bowles told Singer he think he broke his hand. Singer told him he didn’t care, don’t mention it, and champions don’t worry about those things. Uppercut from Mizugaki as Bowles shoots. They tie up against the cage. Knees from both guys. Mizugaki’s back to the cage. Knee from Bowles as he backs out of the clinch. Bowles shoots low, big takedown, takes Mizugaki’s back as he gets to his feet. Bowles looking for a standing RNC. Mizugaki with hand and wrist control, but he’s carrying the weight of Bowles. Crowd getting restless at the piggy back. Loud boos now. Finally the ref re-starts them in the center. Mizugaki backs him up with punches. He lands a couple rights. Jab from Bowles as he shakes out his hand. Mizugaki attacks with punches but nothing lands solid. 10-9 and 29-28 Bowles.

Rafael dos Anjos vs. George Sotiropoulos

Round 1 – George stalking. One two from George. Leg kicks from both. Dos Anjos counters George with a huge right haymaker as he comes in aggressive and this fight is over. Yves Lavigne steps in and stops it. One punch KO by Rafael dos Anjos.

Melvin Guillard vs. Shane Roller

Round 1 – Guillard comes out quick and takes the center. One two body kick from Guillard. Front kick, leg kick from Guillard. Right hand. Leg kick. Body kick counters Roller. Roller takes a poke in the eye and time is called. Leg kick from Guillard. Roller tries to tie up and Guillard lands a knee. Roller lands a nice counter punch. Roller tries to come in and Melvin lands a left hook that drops Roller, he makes it back to his feet, eats a knee to the chin and another left that drops him again. Guillard follows up with several hammerfists and Roller is out cold.

Carlos Condit vs. Dong Hyun Kim

Round 1 – Kim ties up Condit and puts him on his back easily. Condit sweeps to mount. Kim gets to his feet. They separate and square up. Condit with a push punch off the cage, misses. Left hook from Condit connects. Big leg kick. Kim chasing. Flying knee from Condit connects solid on Kim’s chin, he goes down and is pretty much out, Condit follows up with several punches and it’s all over. Ref jumps in and saves Kim. This is a HUGE win for Condit. Kim has not only never been finished, he’s never been beat.

Tito Ortiz vs. Ryan Bader

Round 1 – Incredibly important fight for Tito. It’s an important fight for Bader too, to see how he rebounds after the loss to Jones.  Tito looks in great shape. Tito does his patented jump. Bader with a fohawk. Big right by Bader. Leg kick. Tito with a right hand. Leg kick from Bader. Right hand from Tito and Bader covers up. Leg kick from Tito. The crowd chants Tito. Tito drops Bader with a huge right, he locks him up in a guillotine and Bader taps out. OMG OMG he just dug a grave for Bader and put the dirt on it. Tito is back baby!! Aaron Tru is jumping through the roof right now. How can you not be happy for this guy? His career was on the line, his back against the wall and he did it!! Congratulations Tito!

Matt Wiman vs. Dennis Siver

Round 1 – Leg kick from Wiman. Leg kick from Siver, again, and a left. Left, right from Siver. Wiman shoots, stuffed. Nice body shot from Wiman. Siver ducks a head kick. Big leg kick from Siver. Again. Wiman gives him one back. Superman punch from Wiman, misses. Wiman gets a body lock, drags Siver down but he bounces right up and Wiman stays a hold of him. Wiman grabs a single, Siver defending well and threatens a guillotine. Wiman continues to work for a single, he lets it go. They square up. Leg kick from Siver. Siver gets a takedown, on top in half guard. Siver stands up and Wiman is up. Siver swings big and just misses the back of Wiman’s head. Nice left and uppercut from Siver. Siver with the takedown but Wiman flips it over and ends up on top at the end. Close round. I give it 10-9 Siver.

Round 2 – Leg kick from Siver. Front kick. Wiman goes for a leg, Siver hops out of it. Wiman looking for the takedown still though and holds onto the single. Siver with great takedown defense. The crowd boos at Wiman’s clinch game. Wiman relentless with the takedown attempt. Siver rolls over his back, Wiman jumps on him and is on top in full guard. Siver cut on the top of his head over his right eye. Appears to have come from an elbow from Wiman. Wiman postures up -, with more elbows, three big ones. Siver not controlling the posture of Wiman and he’s paying for it. Siver’s face is a bloody mess now. More elbows and punches from Wiman. Siver trying to strike off his back. Under a minute to go. Three more big elbows from Wiman and Siver appears to have multiple cuts on his face. Wiman tries to pass to side control but does not. 10-9 maybe 10-8 round for Wiman.

Round 3 – Siver with a leg kick. His corner told him to keep it on the feet. Left, right from Siver. Wiman grabs a leg but Siver pulls it out. Wiman shoots for a single. Siver trying to defend and pulls out. Leg kick from Siver. Head kick blocked. Misses a spinning back kick. Leg kick from Siver. Nice leg kick from Wiman, right hook. Leg kick from Siver. Right hook from Wiman. Again. He shoots, grabs a single. Siver with rabbit punches to his face. Wiman staying relentless. Back to the feet. Wiman drops down for a guillotine but Siver is out and up. Leg kick from Wiman. Wiman grabs a kick and sweeps the back leg and is now on top. Siver gets up though. Siver with a leg kick and Wiman goes down, shoots at the leg. Siver punches and locks on a one arm choke at the bell. Replay shows a nice front kick to the face from Siver. I score the round 10-9 for Siver and the fight 29-28 for Siver — however, it could be a draw depending on how the judges score round two.

Not everyone loves the decision.

Wanderlei Silva vs. Chris Leben

Round 1 – Leben with red hair. Leg kick from Leben but he eats some punches from Silva. Leben happy to stand in the pocket and trade and Silva is out cold. Leben follows up with several punches. Leben first caught him with a left hook, then through an uppercut that missed and went through the roof, he held the back of his head with the right hand and threw several left uppercuts and Silva goes down to his knees. Leben attacks until Silva is out cold.

Leben thanked Wanderlei after the fight and said he was his hero.

UFC Bantamweight Championship
Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber

Round 1 – Here we go. Cruz  lands a nice right hand to start.  Bader gets a body lock tries to take him down. Cruz gets free, body kick. Faber drops him with a punch but he was more off balance and pops right up. Cruz ducks a punch and catches him with a punch. Big leg kick from Cruz. Huge uppercut from Cruz stuns Faber. Faber just shook his hand like it’s hurt. Big leg kick, uppercut from Cruz. Faber shoots, ties him up. Cruz with a body lock, Faber breaks the grip pushes him against the cage, swings on the exit. One two from Cruz. Faber with an elbow on the break. Cruz with a jumping knee and a takedown attempt before the bell. Close close round. 10-9 for Cruz.

Round 2 – Faber shoots, stuffed. Faber trying to time Cruz as he comes in. Jab from Cruz. Left hook, right from Cruz. Big leg kick from Cruz. Faber lands a nice right. Leg kick from Cruz, jab. Jab from Cruz. Using that patented footwork, slips a punch from Faber. Right hand from Cruz. Cruz ducks a big hook. Lands a leg kick, head kick. Left hook from Cruz. Jab. Right hook from Faber and Cruz slips down briefly. Back up and back to work. Nice takedown from Cruz with 30 seconds left. Faber is up, lands a left hook. Two kicks and a three punch combo from Cruz. He stole the round back 10-9 for Cruz.

Round 3 – Leg kick from Faber. Big right from Cruz. He ducks Faber’s hook. Jab from Cruz. Leg kick. Body kick. Using feints, couple of rights from Cruz. One two from Cruz. Jab. Right hand from Faber. Huge uppercut and a right after it, head kick. Leg kick. Faber rushes in with a takedown attempt, stuffed. Body lock from Faber, Cruz scrambles and ends up on top,  back to the feet and Faber connects on the break. Big jab from Cruz. He ducks Faber’s hook. Uppercut from Cruz. Leg kick from Cruz, right hand. Big straight right from Cruz. Right hook from Faber. Big jab from Cruz, they tie up. Cruz looks for the takedown. Cruz 10-9.

Round 4 – One two from Cruz. Knee to the body from Cruz, Faber with a left. Jab and two big rights from Cruz. Leg kick from Faber and he rocks Cruz with a right. Cruz shoots, stuffed. Cruz slowing down a bit. Both connect. Body shot from Faber. Faber shoots, stuffed. Right and a knee from Cruz. Knee from Cruz. Body shot. Jab. Right hand and a knee to the body. Jab from Cruz. He shoots, stuffed. Right hand from Cruz. Right hand from Cruz, knee on the break after a quick tie up. Cruz shoots, stuffed against the cage. Close round. I guess 10-9 for Cruz.

Round 5 – Flying knee from Cruz, they tie up, head kick from Cruz is blocked. Cruz shoots pushing him against the cage, knees to the body. They break. Jab from Cruz. Faber with a flying knee, Cruz shoots, guillotine attempt from Faber, Cruz is out. Crowd chants Faber. Cruz with a takedown but Faber right back up. Jab from Cruz and a takedown, pushes Faber to the cage. Cruz lets go the single. Less than two minutes to go. Right hand from Faber. Leg kick from Cruz. Two body shots from Cruz and another takedown, again. Knee to the head on the way up. Thirty seconds left. Cruz shoots, that’s it. 10-9 for Cruz 50-45 for Cruz as I see it. Possibly 49-46. Faber and Cruz hug it out. Nice to see after all the bad blood.

Faber looked terribly surprised for some reason. Good hard fight. Cruz said Faber hits hard and said his hands are very good. Faber said he thought he won.

  1. I’m happy for Tito…too bad I couldn’t see it live…I told yall he had a good shot at winning…I just couldn’t pick him..lol

  2. Yeah I couldn’t pick him either, the odds just didn’t favor it. But I told a guy at work today I was rooting for him. It’s weird to see him in there winning while Chuck and Randy are on the sidelines.

  3. Well…didn’t see it yet…but from the looks of it..Wandy can’t take a punch anymore….might be time to call it a wrap..
