$70,000 bonuses were up for grabs at tonight’s UFC 131 event and when all was said and done, Sam Stout, Chris Weidman, Dave Herman and Jon Olav Einemo each picked up extra money for their performances.

In what could prove to be the knockout of the year, Sam Stout earned “Knockout of the Night” honors in the meantime with his devastating KO of Yves Edwards. Dave Herman and Jon Olav Einemo slugged their way to “Fight of the Night” awards, and rising star Chris Weidman executed a standing guillotine to earn “Submission of the Night” against Jesse Bongfeldt.

Sam Stout may have been on the preliminary card on Spike TV, but you can bet that nearly every MMA fan in the world will replay his brutal KO of Yves Edwards for a long time to come. After getting caught by a right hand from Edwards, Stout countered with a right hand of his own, and then followed up with a colossal left hook that rendered Edwards unconscious before he could hit the mat. Thankfully, Edwards was able to walk out on his own power after laying on the canvas for several minutes.

Chris Weidman proved that not all wrestlers in the UFC “lay and pray”, as he executed his skills in every position of the bout, whether on the feet or on the ground. Weidman tried for several submission attempts from a dominating side mount position, but finally got his “Submission of the Night” as Bongfeldt tried to stand after a take down. Weidman grasped the neck of Weidman and finished him off with a standing guillotine, just a mere seconds before the end of the round.

Dave Herman and Jon Olav Einemo treated the UFC 131 fans to a complete and reckless slugfest. After Einemo appeared to have Herman hurt in the second frame with a big knee, “Pee-Wee” came forward and landed a brutal kick to the body, followed by a knee to the face, and big left hand that dropped Einemo. Einemo survived for the moment, but after getting back to his feet, Herman dropped him with a left hand, and then landed numerous hammer fists forcing a referee stoppage. The back-and-forth battle earned both guys “Fight of the Night” honors.

  1. Sam Stout’s knockout was an over hand left that he said was always effective against southpaws such as yves stance at 131, not an over hand right but good article

  2. If you read all the article you will see that it is written, “a colossal left hook that rendered Edwards unconscious before he could hit the mat”.
