The former “face of women’s MMA” Gina Carano (7-1) will not be competing on Strikeforce’s “Overeem vs. Werdum” June 18 card in Dallas after failing her pre-fight medical examination.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker made the announcement during a conference call Tuesday. “I know that she’s really disappointed,” said Coker. “It’s an unfortunate situation but we have no further information at this time.”

It was not revealed why Carano failed her medicals.

Carano, who has not fought since losing to Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos in Aug. 2009, was scheduled to fight Sarah D’Alelio (4-1) in her highly anticipated return to the cage.

Coker said they should know by the end of the day whether or not D’Alelio will remain on the card.

A lightweight bout between Jorge Masvidal and K.J. Noons will take the place of Carano vs. D’Alelio on the Showtime televised main card.

“Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum” will take place Saturday, June 18, at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, and will feature the second round of Strikeforce’s heavyweight tournament.
