After snagging the belt at lightweight, Clay “The Carpenter” Guida could move to the 145 pound division and seek to stake his claim there as well.

Guida discussed his plans Monday night during an interview on MMA Nation radio (106.7 FM The Fan in Washington DC) with host Luke Thomas and guest co-host Sergio Non:

“After I get my lightweight title belt and hold that for awhile, then I’ll do 145, maybe. But I want my belt first.”

It is a move that makes even more sense once you realize Guida does not cut weight:

“I didn’t cut one pound this week. I’m a midget. I’m very undersized for lightweight. It’s one of those… I have fun. Like I said, I’ve been here, we’ve made our stake at lightweight. I’ve paid my dues. I want my belt first then we’ll move on from there.”

Guida is coming off a unanimous decision win over WEC lightweight champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis last weekend at the TUF 13 Finale.

It was Guida’s fourth straight victory. A veteran of the UFC since 2006, it is the longest win streak of his UFC career.

It is being reported Jim Miller will get the next shot at the lightweight title following “Maynard vs. Edgar 3”, but if all goes well, we could possibly see Mr. Guida in line after that.

Guida has come under fire for the way in which he defeated Pettis, but not enough credit has been given to Pettis for his ability to maintain wrist control, look for submissions and generally stifle Guida’s attempts at doing any kind of significant damage from top position.

Readers can listen to Guida’s entire interview and the rest of the MMA Nation Monday night broadcast as Thomas and Non discuss Quinton “Rampage” Jackson‘s “motorboating” incident and Joe Rogan‘s criticism of an MMA blogger that has him in hot water HERE.
