HILO, Hawaii — Former UFC heavyweight Wesley “Cabbage” Correira plead not guilty to first degree burglary and second degree theft in Hilo circuit court on Thursday.

A trial date has been set for Aug. 1 for the MMA veteran.

The Hawaii Tribune Herald has the story:

Correira is accused of burglarizing a Hawaiian Paradise Park home Sept. 1, 2009. According to police, a television and assorted electronic equipment and games valued at $4,200 were taken.

Police arrested the 32-year-old Correira Wednesday afternoon in the Walmart parking lot. He was also charged with an additional second-degree theft charge, for allegedly taking an iPhone from behind the counter of a Makaala Street store April 8, plus failure to appear and two counts of contempt of court.

First degree burglary carries a maximum penalty of up to  ten years in prison, while second degree theft carries up to five years. Correira’s bail was set at $19,900.

Earlier this month Correira was indicted for auto theft, and according to prosecutors, also has court cases pending for terroristic threatening and shoplifting.

Court records indicate Correira was already on probation for a 2009 conviction for abuse of a family/household member.

Between 2002-2004 Correira fought four times in the UFC, scoring wins over Tank Abbott and Sean Alvarez, and losing to Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski.

Correira, now 32, last fought in April 2008 in Denver at WFC: Armageddon, losing a first round TKO to Jeff Ford. “Cabbage’s” overall MMA record is 19-14.
