Bellator 41 LIVE results and play-by-play

Bellator 41 takes place this evening at the Cocopah Resort and Casino in Yuma, Ariz., and features both season four featherweight tournament semifinal bouts, as well as Bellator featherweight champion Joe Warren and welterweight champion Zach Makovsky in non-title fights.

Bellator 41 will air LIVE on MTV2 starting at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT. ProMMAnow.com will provide LIVE results and play-by-play commentary during the event.

Bellator Featherweight Tournament Semifinal

Kenny Foster vs. Daniel Straus

Round 1 – ProMMAnow.com logo on Straus’ banner looking awesome! Thanks to Mr. Furby for that. The guys are outside in the sun. Big leg kick from Staus. Nice left from Foster as he closes the distance. Staus puts Foster against the cage. Clinched, they go to the ground, scramble. Straus puts knees into Foster’s thighs, they separate. Leg kick from Foster. Foster comes in swinging, drops levels for the shot. Straus’ back against the cage. Body shots from Foster, they wrestle while standing, they separate, exchange some punches. Leg kick from Straus and Foster counters. Knee to the body from Foster. Straus throws him but Foster lands on his feet. Knee to the body from Foster. Straus counters with the same. Flying knee from Straus, this sets up the takedown. Big body shots from Straus as he is on top in half guard. Foster’s back is against the cage while on the ground. Straus tries to lock up a guillotine before the bell. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Straus.

Round 2 – Leg kick from Staus. Again. 99-degrees out there in the sun. Clinched against the cage. Foster swings on the break, misses. Leg kick from Straus. Body shot from Foster and a knee to the body. Leg kick from Straus, they tie up. Right hand on the break and a leg kick from Foster. Superman punch from Foster. Straus throws him to the ground and is in a front headlock type position. Foster gets to his feet, Straus pushes him down with  a guillotine position, but not squeezing it. Straus puts him on his back and starts pounding. Foster gives up his back, gets to his feet. Straus tries to jump on his back but Foster escapes. They square up. Body shot from Straus. Straus with a left hand a big takedown to secure the round. ProMMAnow.com scores the round for Straus 10-9.

Round 3 – Right hand from Foster. Leg kick from Foster. Right hand from Straus, swings again and misses. Foster misses a spin kick. Straus in and out with a a right. Head kick from Straus misses, he shoots, scramble, big knee from Straus to the face. Clinched agains the cage, Straus drops levels. He gets the takedown. Body shots from Straus, staying busy from top position, moves to half guard. Knee on belly, traps an arm with his leg. Grabs a headlock, switches to D’arce, then guillotine, very tight and Foster taps out with just over a minute left in the round. Great showing from Straus. He could have just coasted in with two rounds ahead, but instead, went for the finish and got it.

Bantamweight Super Fight

Zach Makovsky vs. Chad Robichaux

Round 1 – Makovsky, the Bellator bantamweight champion, taking on undefeated (11-0) Robichaux. Mokovsky catches a leg and puts Robichaux on his back. Robichaux locks on a guillotine but Makovsky is in side control and can’t be finished from there. Stalemate. Makovsky gets out and up. Dives in with a shot. Nice left hand. Robichaux gets to his feet. Fast action here, Makovsky had a takedown, cartwheeled over and landed right on his feet and they kept going. Landed a knee once back to their feet. Robichaux eats a big left. Makovsky puts him on his back and has side control. Scramble back to their feet. Robichaux swings, Makovsky gets the takedown as Robichaux attempts a guillotine. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Makovsky. Fast-paced very active round.

Round 2 – Touch of gloves. High kick from Makovsky. Again. Makovsky scores a takedown, has side control. Gets full mount and unleashes a flurry of punches, locks on a rear naked choke. Robichaux escapes a tight choke. Side control for Makovsky, knee to belly, scramble, he stands up, kick to the body, step in left, passes to side control. Scramble, Robichaux gives up his back. Makovsky locks on an arm triangle, Robichaux survives, they stand up and Makovsky slams Robichaux to the mat and takes top position in half guard. Illegal upkick from Robichaux halts the action for a moment. No point deduction. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Makovsky.

Round 3 – Head kick from Makovsky. Leg kick from Robichaux and misses a spinning backfist. Makovsky gets the takedown, has side control, moves to mount. Robichaux gives up his back and Makovsky attacks with a flurry of punches until the ref is forced to step in. Makovsky hands Robichaux the first loss of his career.

Bellator Featherweight Tournament Semifinal

Patricio Freire vs. Wilson Reis

Round 1 – Leg kick Reis. Clinch, Freire shrugs him off. Reis stalking, leg kick. Left hand from Pitbull. Clinch, Reis pushes him against the cage. Body lock from Freire. Pitbull backs out. Pitbull blocks a high kick and Reis shoots with a single leg against the cage. Exchange of knees as Freire turns Reis to the cage. Pitbull backs out. Big head kick from Freire scores. Reis clinches, pushes Freire to the cage. Freire reverses and gets the takedown but Reis gets right up and eats a knee to the chin. They square up. Leg kick from Reis but eats a left. Freire lands a right. Reis with a body kick. Short left from Reis. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Freire.

Round 2 – Leg kick from Reis. Again, then a body kick. Knee to the body from Freire. Flying knee from Reis. Big leg kick from Reis but he eats a big one two punch for the trouble. Reis grabs a single, Pitbull escapes, gets his own single, then grabs a body lock, takes Reis back, he flips him over. Freire throws up a triangle, eats some punches and Reis is inside his guard. Reis on top in half guard and Freire gets his back against the cage and gets up. Reis pushing him into the cage. Knees to the thighs from Reis. Body shots from Freire. Freire jumps into a guillotine but Reis slips out. Freire locks on another guillotine but Reis takes him down and slips out. Freire gets to his feet as Reis clinches and lands knees to the thighs, Freire reverses position putting Reis against the cage, Reis pushes back and reverses. Reis tries to slam Pitbull but he lands on his feet. Flying knee from Freire, they clinch. Close round. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Reis.

Round 3 – The winner here will face Daniel Straus. Leg kick from Reis. Shoots, stuffed. Leg kick from Reis. Shoots, stuffed. They exchange shots and Pitbull gets the better of the shots landing a nice right. Body shot from Reis. Leg kick. Left hook and a knee from Freire. Leg kick from Reis. Right hand from Reis and eats a right left and another right. Reis fires back with a right. Left hand from Reis. Left from Reis. Straight right from Freire. Freire lands a combo and Reis is hurt, he goes down, finds his footing, gets up and Freire finishes him off with several big punches and it’s all over.

Super Fight – 137 lbs. catchweight

Joe Warren vs. Marcos Galvao

Round 1 – This is a non-title bout. Warren clinches, knee, Galvao gets the takedown, takes Warren’s back, lands punches, goes for an armbar, Warren pulls out. Warren gets to his feet takes a up kick to the back of the head. Warren gets swept, they stand. Galvao with a knee, Warren with his own knees. Goes for a throw, ends up on the bottom on the ground. Galvao takes his back. Warren gets to his feet. Warren with a standing guillotine. Galbao punches to the body. Warren goes for a suplex, Galvao gets free, to his feet. Clinch game, knee from Warren and Galvao gets a trip takedown. Warren gets right up. Knee from Galvao. Warren with a one two punch combo. Nice right from Warren. Knee to the body. Warren gets a body lock, knee to the thigh. Elbow from Warren. Clinch game. Warren fires off a combo, clinches, knees from both and Warren backs our. Warren swings and misses, lands a right and gets a slam just before the bell. Good comeback from Warren. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Warren.

Round 2 – Touch gloves and Warren lands a couple punches. Two flying knees land for  Galvao. Left hand by Galvao. Exchange knees. Big uppercut from Galvao. Body lock from Warren, pushes Galvao against the cage, knees. Warren backs out eats an uppercut and a left. Big knee from Galvao right on the chin. Body shot from Warren. Warren gets a body lock, drops levels but Galvao gets free, lands a right. Warren swings, clinches, knee shot, tries to throw Galvao but Galvao out muscles him and is free. Two big knees from Galvao. Overhand right from Warren. Big knee from Galvao lands solid and Warren clinches, gets the takedown. Warren hammerfists the legs of Galvao, doesn’t want to get inside his guard too much. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Galvao.

Round 3 – Warren gets put on his butt after his leg gets kicked out from underneath him. He gets up, clinches, and backs out. They both swing. Warren shoots, gets the takedown, Galvao tries to get up, throws up his legs. Galvao gets to his feet. Warren shoots, body lock, gets the takedown even though Galvao was hanging onto the cage. Warren inside Galvao’s full guard. Galvao with butterfly guard, lifts Warren into the air, regains full closed guard. Warren working from top position with punches. Galvao throwing elbows off his back. Warren with elbows, staying busy. Warren gets extra busy with several punches before the bell. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Warren and the fight 29-28 for Warren. — Galvao’s corner and he were celebrating after the bell, clearly thinking they won. The first round is very debatable. I gave it to Warren but it could easily go to Galvao. Bellator commentator Jimmy Smith actually scored it for Galvao, and scored the fight for Galvao.

NOTES: 30-27 for Warren is absurd. There was some question about round one, but not about round two, at least in my opinion. Either way, good night of fights.
