NEWKIRK, Okla. — Bellator 40 takes place this evening at the First Council Casino in Newkirk, Okla., and will feature Bellator welterweight champion Ben “Funky” Askren versus UFC and Strikeforce veteran Nick “The Goat” Thompson in a non-title Super Fight main event.

Bellator 40 will air LIVE tonight at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT on MTV2. ProMMAnow.com (www.prommanow.com) will provide LIVE results and play-by-play commentary of all the action. Also on the televised card will be two season four tournament semifinal bouts including Jay Hieron taking on Brent Weedman to determine Rick Hawn’s opponent in the Bellator welterweight finals, and Michael Chandler will face Lloyd Woodard, with the winner earning the right to fight Patricky “Pitbull” Freire in the lightweight finals.

265 lbs. Eric Prindle def. Josh Burns

Kind of strange here, they are showing this fight on MTV2 which has already happened. Only three fights were scheduled for the main card so that is probably why.

Round 1 – Prindle with a leg kick and barely misses a head kick. Clinch, body shots. Leg kick from Prindle hits Burns low and time is called. Prindle is a big boy. He cuts about 30-pounds to make weight. Nice left from Prindle and Burns fires back, they are both slugging away and Prindle is smiling and laughing. Left hook from Prindle scores. Another one. Burns has a couple cuts on his face. Big leg kick from Prindle. Straight left from Burns. Right, left from Burns. Big leg kick from Prindle. And Burns retaliates with same. Burns breathing heavy. Burns blocks a body kick. Burns with an uppercut out of the clinch. Left jab from Burns and he lands another big left that knocks Prindle off balance. The clinch, knee from Prindle and Burns lands a couple big shots right on the chin. Prindle is rocked and clinches. Right hook from Burns. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Burns.

Round 2 – Burns was a golden gloves champion.Big kick from Prindle lands low and the ref takes a point away. Burns counters with several big punches, shoots, Prindle stuffs it, clinch and separate. Big leg kick from Prindle. Left hook from Prindle. Nice straight right knocks Burns head back. Burns shoots, stuffed. Big right from Prindle as Burns stands up. Right left from Burns, drops levels for the shot, stuffed. Stand up and separate. Leg kick from Prindle. Nice jab from Prindle, again, again, and a nice right. Burns swings big, scores, he grabs a body lock. Prindle stops him and puts a knee in his gut. Right hand from Prindle, leg kick, Burns fires back but Prindle counters. Straight left from Prindle and Burns is bleeding quite a big now over his left eye. Nice one two, knee from Prindle. The knee hit right on the chin. Left jab from Burns. Prindle liked that and they slap five. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 9-9 due to the point deduction.

The fight is stopped due to the cut over Burns’ left eye. Burns is pissed. Prindle is upset too. These guys are very good friends. They hug it out. The cut really did not look that bad and it wasn’t bleeding that badly either.

155 lbs. Lloyd Woodard vs. Michael Chandler

Round 1 – Chandler with two takedowns within the first two minutes. Chandler is inside Woodard’s guard.  Woodard gets up, clinched, they separate. Right hand from Chandler and Chandler’s nose is bleeding a little. He shoots, gets the takedown and he’s on top in half guard. Woodard pushes him off, eats a shot and makes it to his feet. Straight right from Chandler, shoots, and gets the takedown once again. Woodard trying to shrimp and make something happen, eats a few elbows. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Chandler.

Round 2 – Woodard misses a head kick. But knocks Chandler’s leg out from under him with a leg kick. Chandler leaps in with a one two. Again, with a one two. Woodard with a couple quick uppercuts. Chandler with a leg kick, a shot, stuffed and eats a huge knee to the face. He appears okay somehow. He gets a takedown. Woodard has full guard, shrimping, sits up and uses the cage to get up. Chandler holds onto Woodard, wanting to put him back down. Uppercut from Chandler, scramble, big takedown from Chandler. Woodard looking for a kimura. Uses it to sweep and Chandler gets to his feet. Woodard with a body lock from the back, Chandler drops down and grabs Woodard’s leg. Woodard tries to take his back, has one hook in, now both. Chandler tries to turn, stands up and Woodard going for the standing rear-naked with 15 seconds, 10 seconds, he lets it go and punches away until the bell sounds. Great comeback from Woodard. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Woodard.

Round 3 – Leg kick from Woodard, again. Big uppercut from Chandler. Woodard grabs a collar tie and lands a knee. Straight left, right from Chandler, clinch, knee. Underhooks from Woodard, knee, knee, uppercut. Chandler with a leaping left hook, shoots, gets the takedown but Woodard immediately gets up. Chandler with a big slam. Woodard with full guard. Small hammerfists from Chandler, lands a few good punches. 2:25 left in the fight. Right hand to the body from Chandler. Moves to half guard. Ref stands them up. Woodard chases with a head kick. Chandler shoots, guillotine attempt from Woodard and they roll over backward. Chandler gains top position, full mount with less than a minute to go. Chandler with a big right. Woodard achieves half guard, fishes for a kimura and Chandler lands a couple more punches before the bell. ProMMAnow.com scores the round 10-9 for Chandler and the fight 29-28 for Chandler.

Both of these guys were undefeated coming into this bout. Woodard was 11-0 and Chandler was 6-0. It was a bad style match-up for Woodard. It’s easy to tell he is a very talented fighter but we can see here how a strong wrestler can take him out of his game and control from the top.

Chandler will now face Patricky “Pitbull” Freire in the Bellator season 4 lightweight tournament finals. Chandler says he is ready for “Pitbull” and excited for a title shot against Eddie Alvarez. Chandler almost seems like a bigger Joe Warren.

170 lbs. Brent Weedman vs. Jay Hieron

Round 1 – The fighters exchange early and Weedman drops Hieron to the ground. He jumps of his down opponent and takes the mount. Hieron works his way back to half guard, but Weedman takes the back again. He takes the back, but Hieron reverses him and gets on top. He tries to set up a D’Arce choke, and it looks tight. Weedman seems to survive, and Hieron eventually lets it go. He throws some punches from the full guard and works back into the same choke. He gives up on it, but he continues to throw short punches from the top. Weedman scrambles his way back to the feet, but eats a nasty knee for his trouble. 10-9 Hieron

Round 2 – Weedman starts the round off with some kicks that do not land clean. He continues to work push kicks to keep Hieron at a distance. He finally closes the distance and lands a nice uppercut. The fighters clinch and Weedman lands two knees. On the break, Hieron lands a nice right. Whenever Weedman closes the distance against Hieron, he eats some leather. The Xtreme Couture fighter lands a Superman punch off the cage. Weedman is still stalking his opponent, but getting the worst of the exchanges. He has done some damage with leg kicks. 10-9 Hieron on the ProMMANow card.

Round 3 – Weedman lands a nice shot. He tries to land a jumping knee, but Hieron catches him for a takedown. Weedman pulls a guillotine on the way down and uses it to get back to his feet. Once again, Weedman is walking down his opponent, and he is starting to land better this round. Hieron goes back to the Superman punch and follows up with a sweet right hook. A hard leg kick lands for Weedman. He comes forward again and Hieron clips him with a short hook, but he looks okay. Leg Kick/Footsweep takes Hieron to the ground. Weedman is on Hieron’s back with a leg lace. Hieron does a forward roll to get back to his back, but Weedman moves to side control. He works quickly into the mount. The scramble continues and Heiron gets on top. Weedman throws the legs up and Hieron passes at the bell. Weedman takes it 10-9 on the ProMMANow card.

170 lbs. Ben Askren vs. Nick Thompson

Round 1 – Askren throws a head kick that slips. He then shoots for a takedown and slips to his back. He immediately sweeps his way back to the top. He looked to have an inverted head and arm choke, but he lets it go and settles into half guard. Thompson gets to half guard, but Askren lands some hammer fists. “The Goat” tries to frame up a leg lock, but Askren steps over it. Now, he tries short punches from side control. Thompson gives up the back, but Askren throws to the head inside of setting up the hooks. Thompson goes back to his back. Askren tries to set up the beatdown position, but Thompson slips out. Thompson scrambles back to his feet, but Askren drags his back down in half guard. ProMMANow score is 10-9 for Askren

Round 2 – Askren ducks under a punch and scores with a high-dive takedown right into side control. Askren tries to take mount, but chooses to stand over his opponent. As he comes down with a punch, Thompson works hard for a knee bar, but Askren cross faces his way out and takes mount. He takes the back with the body triangle. He works for the choke and then punches. He gives up the position and stands over his opponent again. He tries to take the back again. Thompson scrambles away, but Askren gets back on top right away. He then takes side control again and lands knees to the body. Thompson goes for a heel hook again, but Askren spins his way out again. Score is 10-9 for Askren

Round 3 -Thompson tries to work a jab and Askren goes for a spinning back fist. Neither attack lands clean. Askren gets another takedown right into side control. Thompson gets full guard and frames up a triangle. Askren is caught back passes it right away into half guard and then side control. Askren momentarily goes for a guillotine from the top, but gives it up quick. Thompson gets free with 16 second left and lands a hard punch from the top, but it is not enough. Another 10-9 round from Ben Askren
