Longtime UFC veteran Keith Jardine (17-9-1) will take the injured Mike Kyle’s spot against Gegard Mousasi (30-3-1) in a light heavyweight bout at Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley on April 9 in San Diego.

The promotion announced the news tonight during the Strikeforce Challengers 15 telecast.

Jardine made his way into the UFC in 2005 after appearing on the second season of The Ultimate Fighter. He went 5-7 for the promotion, picking up notable wins over Forrest Griffin and Chuck Liddell, but losing bouts to Wanderlei Silva, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Houston Alexander. Jardine was released from the promotion after losing four straight bouts.

The fight against Jardine will be Mousasi’s first Strikeforce match since losing the light heavyweight title to Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal.
