Shark Fights 14 LIVE results and play-by-play

LUBBOCK, Texas — Shark Fights 14 takes place this evening at the Fair Park City Coliseum in Lubbock, Texas, and will air LIVE on HDNet starting at 10 p.m. ET.

The Shark Fights 14 main event features well-rounded Brazilian Danillo Villefort (12-3) seeking to keep his win streak alive against former IFL middleweight champion Matt Horwich (26-17-1), who is coming off a third round TKO over Jake Rosholt this past November.

In the Shark Fights 14 co-main event, top-ranked female fighters Tara LaRosa (19-2) and Carina Damm (15-5) will square off to try and settle some bad blood that goes back to their days with Bodog.

Shark Fights 14 play-by-play:

Sean Shakour vs. Joseph Sandoval

Round 1 – Bantamweights. Shakour (3-1) in the red shorts. Lubbock’s own Joseph Sandoval, wearing the black shorts, is undefeated (4-0) coming into this fight. Shakour shoots right away and puts Sandoval on his back. Sandoval throwing elbows from his back, tries to get up. They scramble and Shakour takes his back with hooks in. They roll, has a body triangle on Sandoval and rains down punches. Shakour looking for the choke with about a minute left in the round. (These first few fights are three minute rounds) Shakour continues to land punches while holding the body triangle, but Sandoval throws a back elbow that breaks open the body triangle and spins around to top position at the bell. Round 2 – Shakour shoots again and puts Sandoval down easily. Sandoval throwing shots from his back, gets to his knees and Shakour takes his back. Sandoval reverses and ends up in top position inside guard. Shakour eats a couple big elbows from Sandoval. More elbows from Sandoval, punches to the ribs. More elbows to the forehead. Sandoval wearing Shakour down with quite a bit of damage. ProMMAnow.com scores it 10-9 for Sandoval.

Round 3 – Shakour with a one two. Sandoval fires back, Shakour shoots, but gets stuffed. Shakour is dropping blood. Both guys on their knees facing one another and Sandoval lands several punches. Shakour scrambles and gets on Sandoval’s back. Sandoval reverses and gains top control and starts raining down punches and elbows. Sandoval postures up, stands over Shakour and lands several punches. Dives in with a punch and takes side control. Sandoval gets full mount with 25 seconds to go. Sandoval begins a brutal assault of punches for the remaining seconds. Layne Hernandez vs. Gabe Vasquez

Round 1 – Welterweights. Layne Hernandez in white shorts. Gabe Vasquez, from Amarillo, in the  black shorts with white trim. Big John is the ref. Hernandez ducks a high kick and gets the takedown right away but Vasquez throws up an armbar. Hernandez picks him up as he hangs on the arm, it loosens, he’s safe from the armbar but Hernandez goes for the leg. Hernandez takes Vasquez’s back with hooks in. Vasquez on his knees. They stand up and Hernandez puts him on his back and gets mount. Vasquez gives up his back and Hernandez looking for the choke but Vasquez controlling his wrists. Hernandez gets top control before the bell. ProMMAnow.com scores it 10-9 for Hernandez.

Round 2 – Leg kick from Vasquez, misses a high kick. Hernandez picks him up and puts him on his back hard. They scramble and Hernandez gets his back again. Vasquez rolls looking for a kneebar. They scramble to their feet and Vasquez barely misses with a knee on the way up. Vasquez lands a clean shin kick to the face. Hernandez shoots and Vasquez throws up a triangle. Hernandez caught in the triangle and Vasquez lights him up with elbows and punches. Hernandez gets free, takes top control, they scramble and Hernandez tries for his back, ends in a scramble. Very close round but ProMMAnow.com scores it 10-9 for Vasquez.

Round 3 – Vasquez lands a big straight left. Hernandez picks him up though and slams him. Vasquez locks on a guillotine on the way down, clamps it on tight and Big John stops it as Hernandez goes out.

Alex Cisne vs. Eric Davila

Round 1 – Welterweights. Five minute rounds now. Alex Cisne in black shorts. Bighead MMA’s Eric Davila wearing red, white and  green shorts, comes in draped in a U.S. flag over one shoulder and a Mexican flag over the other. Davila coming off a win over Pete Spratt. Side kick from Cisne scores. Then a leg kick and Davila lands a punch. Back kick to the gut from Cisne, then clinches. Knee to the belly from Cisne and a side kick. Leg kick. They clinch, Cisne gets a single, lifts Davila up and slams him. Davila gives up his back. They stand and Cisne has a body lock, knee to the thigh, moves to a front body lock with underhooks. They wrestle, exchange knees and elbows from the clinch. Roundhouse to the body from Cisne, misses with a head kick. Davila clinches but gets taken down but he bounces right up. Clinched. Boos from the crowd at the stale mate. Cisne puts Davila on his back. Davila gets to his knees and Cisne takes his back while standing. He lets go of the choke and they clinch from front position now. Knees to thighs from Cisne. Davila lands some kidney shots. Boos at the slow pace. ProMMAnow.com scores it 10-9 for Cisne.

Round 2 – Touch gloves. Side kick from Cisne. Leg kick. Again. Side kick to the ribs. They clinch. Cisne puts Davila on the mat. Boos from the crowd at the stale mate. Cisne on top in half guard. Davila grabs Cisne’s head but he easily pulls out. Davila gets to his feet as Cisne has a body lock from behind, moves to the front, knees to the thighs from Cisne. Cisne drops levels after eating a knee. Davila stops the takedown momentarily and locks on a front headlock. Cisne drops levels again for a single but can’t get it. Cisne’s nose is bleeding. Lands a side kick. Davila standing straight up, misses a left hook. Cisne fires back but Davila lands a big right hand, he tries to escape and Davila hunts him down in slow motion and lands more punches to the bloody face of Cisne. Knee to the body from Davila. Ugly fight. Davila came back and stole the round though. ProMMAnow.com scores it 10-9 for Davila.

Round 3 – Side kick from Cisne. Spinning back kick from Cisne and Davila walks after him like a mummy, with hands down and chin up. Cisne also standing still with hands down. Cisne looks tired and Davila starts landing big punches, completely flat-footed, walks Cisne down, big overhand right, and follows it up until Cisne goes down. It’s over.

Lucas Lopez vs. Mike Bonzoulis

Round 1 –  175-pound catchweight. Bonzoulis drops Lopez right away with a head kick. Bonzoulis lets him up. Lopez falls to his back after missing a kick. They clinch. Lopez gets the takedown but Bonzoulis gets to his feet. Lopez misses a punch. Bonzoulis with a leaping punch. Connects with a  shot but Lopez pours on the heat with a flurry and lands several. Lopez hunting him down now with shots. Collar tie from both guys. Left jab and spinning backfist from Lopez, another one. Lopez walking him down, tries to toss him to the ground but ends up on his back. Bonzoulis on top and landing some nice punches. Lopez grabs his ankle and trips Bonzoulis. Lopez gets up and they fight from the clinch. They separate and Lopez lands some nice combos. Bonzoulis fires back. Lopez lands an uppercut and more punches. Both fighters have little power behind their shots and look tired. Front kick from Bonzoulis then a jab. Lopez shoots, gets a double, picks him up and puts Bonzoulis down. Lopez stands and lets him up at the bell. ProMMAnow.com scores it 10-9 for Lopez.

Round 2 – Lopez lands a combo of punches. They square up and Lopez picking his shots. Bonzoulis backs Lopez against the cage with the clinch. Lopez backs out then drops levels and pushes Bonzoulis against the cage, he backs out, grabs a collar  tie. Nice left from Bonzoulis, another one. Lopez drops levels, gets brushed aside. Lopez shoots, Bonzoulis sprawls and takes Lopez’s back. Lopez rolls over and Bonzoulis stands up and lets Lopez up. Big leg kick from Lopez, another. Lopez with a combo of punches with no power. Lopez  dives at an ankle, eats a knee and a big left hand. Bonzoulis teeing off. Lopez with a lazy leg kick and shoots. He’s stuffed. Bonzoulis grabs a body lock from behind, knee to the head twice. Lopez drops to the ground looking for a single. Bonzoulis lands a big right, grabs the collar tie and lands several three big knees. They exchange punches, both guys exhausted and look spent. Round 3 – Elbow from Lopez and a leg kick. Left hook and a right from Lopez, another leg kick. Leg kick from Bonzoulis and Lopez fires back with an elbow. Exchange of jabs and punches. Body shot from Lopez and Bonzoulis lands a big right. Lopez shoots lazily and falls to his back. Ref lets him up. Bonzoulis walks into a couple shots and Lopez shoots for a single. Bonzoulis pushes Lopez’s head into the mat and tries to take his back. Lopez goes for an armbar, misses and the ref lets him up. Lopez shoots, stuffed. They stand and Bonzoulis lands a knee and a kick to the body. Knee from the clinch by Lopez. Lopez drops levels, stuffed. Lopez lands a combo of weak punches, then a sloppy shot. Bonzoulis defends another shot and Lopez holding onto his legs. Bonzoulis landing punches to the ribs. Very sloppy striking from both guys right now. Lopez shoots, stuffed. Tara LaRosa vs. Carina Damm

Round 1 – Tara comes out wearing a cowboy cowgirl hat. They just said Tara was six foot five inches tall. Carina misses a head kick. Leg kick from Tara. Carina fires one back. Another. They exchange punches and kicks and Tara lands another leg kick. Carina with a big leg kick to the back of the thigh of Tara. Carina misses a head kick and a right hand. Leg kick from Damm. Leg kick from Damm. Tara comes in swinging but Damm fires back, both landing shots as they clinch against the cage. Damm gets the takedown and lands in mount. She goes for an armbar and Tara ends up on top inside full guard. Damm with closed guard and holding on. Tara postures up. Damm blocks an elbow attempt. Tara lands an elbow and a punch. Damm wrestling for wrist control and striking from her back. Tara with more punches, picks her up a little with a small slam. Elbows from Tara just before the bell. Tara breaks out at the bell. Round 2 – Tara drops Carina with a punch as Carina threw a leg kick. LaRosa follows her to the ground and Carina goes for her leg, looking for a heel hook or something, but LaRosa locks up her own heel hook, she locks it tight, it’s nasty, she twists it inside and Damm taps out.

Matt Horwich vs. Danillo Villefort

Round 1 – Villefort lands a couple nice shots as Horwich hunts him down. Villefort lands some more shots as Horwich gets his hands on him in a clinch, Villefort gets free and lands a leg kick and more punches. Horwich squares up eats a big leg kick and more punches. Villefort with more strikes that land, he hip tosses Horwich to the ground but lets him up. Elbow from Villefort. Front kick to the thigh scores and a left hook from Villefort. Nice punches connecting for Villefort. Elbow and a straight left and a kick to the thigh. Horwich clinches, drops levels for a single. Villefort tries to trip him, Horwich avoids it, but Villefort gets it on the second try. They stand right up though. Villefort with a leg kick and side kick to the thigh. Villefort lands more punches and Horwich throws and ugly kick. Villefort shoots, gets the takedown. On top in half guard and lands some elbows before the bell. Round 2 – Horwich standing straight up and a leg kick drops him. He grabs a Thai clinch, avoids a takedown, but ends up on his back anyway. Villefort inside guard postures up. Horwich gets up. Villefort with a punch and a big leg kick. Horwich ties him up. Villefort attempts a judo toss, Horwich defends. Clinched. They exchange punches and knees. Villefort with a couple shots, he shoots, they spin, and square up. Uppercut from Villefort, trip takedown and he’s on top in half guard. Elbow from Villefort, looking to pass guard. Horwich retains full guard, closed. They get to their feet. Horwich goes for a single, no dice. Knee to the gut from Villefort. Clinched. Foot stomp from Villefort. They wrestle from the clinch and Villefort gets a judo toss and lands on top in half guard. ProMMAnow.com scores it 10-9 for Villefort.

Round 3 – Lazy body kick from Horwich and a left hand. Horwich gets the takedown and is on top inside guard. Villefort throws up his legs and gets an arm under Horwich’s leg. Villefort looking for a kneebar or leglock of some sort. Horwich landing some hammerfists and punches. Villefort gets to his feet, goes for a judo toss. He ends up on top and Horwich is on his back. Villefort inside Horwich’s rubber guard, he lets the high guard down. Time is running down. Ref stands them up. Villefort with a kick to the thigh and a back elbow, then a trip takedown and lands on top inside guard. Horwich’s face is bleeding likely from an elbow. Horwich hanging on tight, traps Villefort’s arm behind his back, Villefort gets out but Horwich locks up  his other arm in an omoplata shoulder lock until the bell runs out.
