World top-ranked flyweight Ian McCall will take on undefeated Strikeforce veteran Dustin Ortiz at Tachi Palace 9 on May 6.

ProMMAnow.com (www.prommanow.com) was made aware of the match-up on Wednesday from sources close to the situation, and can confirm at least one bout agreement has been signed.

McCall (9-2) recently moved to the number three spot on Sherdog’s top 125-pound list after taking out number one ranked Jussier da Silva (9-1) via unanimous decision at Tachi Palace Fights 8 last month.

McCall is a WEC veteran whose only losses have been at bantamweight; a unanimous decision loss to Dominick Cruz at WEC 38 in 2009 and a submission loss to Charlie Valencia at WEC 31 in 2007.

Ortiz (7-0) is a Nashville MMA product with a perfect 7-0 record. He made his Strikeforce debut in April 2010 with a first round rear-naked choke submission over Justin Pennington.

He returned to Strikeforce in January of this year with a third round knockout of Matt Horning.

  1. Dont get this fight. Ian should be the top contender to fight Montague for the Flyweight title, why is he fighting this kid?

Is Montague hurt and he cant defend his title or something?

But this is a good card, Harris, Efrain, and then Dodson/Mamoru, thats a good card.

When is Vila gonna come back and get a fight? And who will Montague fight next? You have McCall if he wins and Dodson/Mamoru def winner would be top 5 in the world and a top contender.

  2. They were considering Montague vs. McCall for this card, but Darrell was a little banged up and probably couldn’t get ready in time.

I think Vila ended up not signing with Tachi. He fought recently for a promotion in Florida and won, beat a guy who was 11-5

  3. dont count dustin out. He is a very skilled and well rounded fighter with great wrestling. Yes he has only fought a handful of times but has won all of them in dominating fashion. He has also trained with the best in dominic cruz. Mccall better not take him lightly or he will be in for a rude awakening!

  4. You sound surprised Richard, like I’m the kind of guy that doesn’t do his homework. I mean, I don’t, but that’s still hurtful.
