This UFC 127 main event fight was a tale of two fighters in regards to BJ Penn. He started the fight off quickly immediately looking to take Jon Fitch to the ground, he wasn’t successful at first as he spent a lot of energy clinching with Fitch. However, he was able to take Fitch down near the end of the round and even took his back for a brief stint. That was enough to give Penn the round in my books.

The second round was more of the same, except it was Fitch trying to take Penn down as they clinched against the cage. The whole time Fitch was leaning on Penn, but Penn was able to land a short elbow that opened Fitch’s nose up and he began to bleed. Penn took Fitch down again, and was able to briefly take his back before Fitch spun around in Penn’s guard to achieve top position. Penn was able to get up to his feet just before the bell sounded to end the round. This was a very close round to score and could have gone either way.

The third and final round was all Jon Fitch. He immediately took Penn down and pinned him against the cage where he fed Penn a steady diet of ground and pound for the entire round. Penn, feeling the effects of the repeated take-down attempts earlier in the fight offered nothing in return. I scored this round 10-8 in favor of Fitch.

The judges called the fight a majority draw(29-28 Fitch, 28-28, 28-28).
