Amarillo, TX. – February 24, 2011 –Texas based mixed martial arts fight promotion company, Shark Fight Promotions, announced today that the Shark Fights 14 co-main event will feature a highly anticipated re-match between two hard hitting light heavyweights, Houston Alexander and James Irvin. Shark Fights 14 will take place Friday March 11, at the Fair Park Coliseum in Lubbock, Texas.

According to Brent Medley, president of Shark Fight Promotions, “We are very excited to have Alexander vs. Irvin as our co-main event at Shark Fights 14. Alexander is coming off of a very impressive TKO win over Rameau Sokoudjou at Shark Fights 13, a performance that earned him “fight of the night” bragging rights. Irvin is also a very explosive, high caliber fighter and has one of the fastest KO’s on record (8 seconds.)”

Medley went on to say, “We feel that the Alexander vs. Irvin re-match is long overdue. It is a very compelling match up. Alexander and Irvin did not hesitate to accept the fight. Both say that they are more than ready to throw down for a second time. They are hard hitting, dynamic fighters who have faced some of the biggest names in MMA. This is going to be a full out brawl from start to finish!”

In 2008 Houston “The Assassin” Alexander (11-6-0) suffered a first round KO loss to Irvin at UFC Fight Night 13 and is ready to settle the score. Alexander, who is coming off of an impressive second round TKO victory over Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, plans to defeat Irvin and clinch his third straight win.  This UFC veteran is a fan favorite and has faced off in the cage with notable fighters such as Keith Jardine, Thiago Silva, and Alessio Sakara. He also appeared on Spike TV’s “The Ultimate Fighter – Heavyweights” in 2009.

Houston Alexander had this to say, “I am definitely looking forward to fighting under the Shark Fights banner again. Shark Fights is a class act organization and take a lot of pride in putting the fighters and the fans first, and I have to say that Texas is home to some of the greatest MMA fans on the planet. At Shark Fights 13 the fans came out in full force to support the fighters and show their love for the sport. We do what we do for the fans, so it’s always great to fight in Texas!”

Alexander added, “I am more than ready for this fight. When I step into the cage with Irvin, it’s on! Fans will not be disappointed.”

James “The Sandman” Irvin (15-8-0) recently stepped into the cage with Mike Crisman in a bout that ended in a No Contest. Irvin plans to defeat Alexander a second time and add another notable win to his already impressive record. Irvin has fought for many of the top fight organizations in the industry and is a seasoned UFC veteran. He has thrown down with a laundry list of notable fighters including Scott Smith, Stephan Bonnar, and Anderson Silva.

Irvin had this to say about fighting for Shark Fight Promotions, “I am looking forward to this fight and to fighting for Shark Fight Promotions. They have a great reputation within the industry and have a proven track record of putting on stellar shows. Fans can definitely expect to see more of me in the Shark Fights arena in the future. As for Houston, he better be ready, because I plan to end this fight the same way I did that last time we stepped into the cage.”
