UFC President Dana White told Kampiro, a Japanese MMA magazine, that the promotion has planned to hold an event in the Land of the Rising Sun this December. The news come via NightmareofBattle.com, who posted the quotes from White’s interview.

“Finally, in December, UFC will land in Japan … A Japan event is already in this years schedule.”

The UFC hasn’t held a fight card in Japan since UFC 29 in December 2000. It’s been trying for years without luck but ramped up its efforts earlier this year, announcing media partnerships to further expand its reach in the Japanese MMA market.

With major Japanese shows DREAM and Sengoku starting to falter, Zuffa has also swooped in and signed a number of big-name Japanese fighters, including Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto and Michihiro Omigawa.
