LAS VEGAS — “UFC 126: Silva vs. Belfort” takes place this evening (Saturday, Feb. 5) at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nev. The Pay-Per-View card starts at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. The Spike TV prelim show starts at 9 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Headlining the card is a middleweight title fight between Anderson “The Spider” Silva, who will be defending his crown against former UFC light heavyweight champ Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort.

In the co-main event former middleweight champ Rich “Ace” Franklin takes on former light heavyweight champ and the original “Ultimate Fighter”, Forrest Griffin.

And one of the most hyped and talked about fights on the card will be against undefeated light heavyweight Ryan “Darth” Bader and rising superstar Jon “Bones” Jones.

Norifumi Yamamoto vs. Demetrious Johnson

Round 1 – Left hand by Yamamoto. Johnson switches stances. Leg kick from Johnson, counter from Kid. Kid swings, Johnson covers up. Johnson misses with a head kick, he shoots, stuffed. Touch gloves. Leg kick  from Johnson skims the leg. Kid  swings and uppercut and Johnson ducks under and puts Kid on his back but he gets right up. Left hand from Kid, then a right. Nice counter from Kid then Johnson takes him down. Johnson on top in half guard. Matt Hume giving instruction to Johnson but Kid gets up. Johnson with a combo, misses with a head kick and Kid pushes him against the cage. Knee to the body from Kid. They separate. Nice takedown from Johnson as he ducks Kid’s punch. Johnson with half guard on top. And I score the round for Johnson 10-9.

Round 2 – Leg kick from Demetrious. Again. Johnson fakes a shot. Kid goes for a takedown, but Johnson avoids it and slips on a kick, gets back up. Low blow from Johnson and time is called. Kid keeps feinting with a knee to show Johnson he better be careful of the shot. Nice life from Kid then Johnson shoots under the next punch, gets the takedown but Kid bounces up. They go back to swinging, Johnson shoots, stuffed. Nice exchange of punches, Johnson shoots and Kid avoids. Leg kick from Johnson. Nice punch lands for Kid. Johnson with a quick punch then a takedown, Kid gets right up though again. 90 seconds left in round two. Both guys swing and miss, Johnson shoots again and puts Kid on his back. Rogan is saying Johnson is the fastest fighter he’s ever seen. Kid is back up. Johnson shoots, gets a single leg, turns the corner. Kid gets up, lands a nice knee on Johnson. Thinks it’s illegal and backs up to let Johnson up. I see the round for Johnson 10-9.

Round 3 – Johnson has a lump on the right side of his eyebrow. Kid looks just a bit winded, maybe. Body kick from Johnson. Johnson with a punch, takedown combo. Kid gets up, throws a knee. They square up. Nice exchange, inside leg kick from Johnson. Kid shrugs Johnson off. Kid scores with a couple punches. Johnson gets the takedown. Kid tries to get up, they scramble and Kid is up. Two minutes to go. Nice left hook from Johnson and another left hook and a kick to the body and Johnson gets a takedown. Kid appeared rocked from that left hook to the chin. Kid is up though, lands a knee. They square up with less than a minute to go. Johnson shoots, Kid tries to stop it but ends up on his back. Rogan can’t get over Kid’s speed. Johnson on top in half guard. I give Johnson the round 10-9 and the fight 30-27. And if you look at our staff picks, I called this fight.

Chad Mendes vs. Michihiro Omigawa

Round 1 – Omigawa just pushed the cameraman out of the way as Buffer was calling out his introduction, did not want it in his face. Leg kick from Mendes. Right hand from Mendes. Another and another one, leg kick. Another right from Mendes, swings with a left hook. Omigawa with a left hook. Another left hook from Omigawa. Inside leg kick from Mendes. He shoots but can’t complete it. Right hand from Mendes tags Omigawa. Big leg kick from Mendes. One, two from Mendes, then a leg kick. Omigawa with a leg kick and Mendes shoots, gets stuffed. Big left hand from Mendes scores. Right jab from Mendes. Left jab from Mendes, then an inside leg kick, takedown from Mendes. Mendes inside full guard. Omigawa attacking from his back with elbows and locks on an armbar but Mendes gets free. Omigawa gets to his feet, inside leg kick from Mendes. One, two punch from Mendes misses. Round 2 – Inside leg kick from Mendes then connects with a big punch that rocks Omigawa and he goes down. Mendes pounces with ground and pound. Omigawa gets guard, Mendes stands up and drops some shots. Omigawa attacks the leg but Mendes gets out and they get up. Omigawa comes forward, eats a punch or two. His nose is bleeding. Body shot from Mendes, overhand right from Mendes. Omigawa coming forward, closing the distance. Overhand right from Mendes, he grabs a single, then spins a full circle trying to take him down. Mendes pushes him against the cage. Big elbow from Mendes. They separate, Omigawa comes forward, one two from Mendes then two big leg kicks. Omigawa comes forward lands a couple punches. Mendes shoots, Omigawa sprawls, elbows to the body and Mendes stands. Leg kick from Mendes, head kick. Omigawa stalking. Right hand from Omigawa. Omigawa swings big, but gets put on his back. Mendes upens him up with an elbow. Mendes should have the round 10-9.

Round 3 – Enormous goat’s vagina over Omigawa’s left eye. That’s a “cut” in Joe Rogan terms. Omigawa comes out swinging and gets popped on his eye. He’s still coming forward, lands a left on Mendes’ chin. Mendes shoots and Omigawa sprawls. Mendes holding onto the single and Omigawa goes for a guillotine, Mendes flips over, scrambles and ends up on top in half guard. Omigawa attacking from his back with elbows. Mendes trying to pass but Omigawa has a very good guard. Two minutes to go. Right hand from Mendes. Omigawa is up. Both guys land some shots and Mendes lands a nice right. Leg kick from Mendes. One, two from Omigawa. They are staying in the pocket now. Omigawa lands a nice left and Mendes gets the takedown. 40 seconds to go. Omigawa throwing elbows from his back. Right hand from Mendes, he stands up and throws punches until the bell sounds. Omigawa slams his hands to the mat in frustration. Mendes should have the round 10-9 and the fight 30-27.

Donald Cerrone vs. Paul Kelly

Round 1 – Cerrone gets a takedown as Kelly swings at the glove touch. Rogan calls it a sucker punch. Cerrone mounts but Kelly is up. Kelly looks much thicker. Nice left hook from Kelly. Leg kick from Cerrone. Leg kick from Cowboy. Leg kick from Cowboy. Body kick from Kelly then a big left hand. Leg kick from Cerrone but gets countered to the chin. Body kick Cerrone. Left hook from Kelly and Cowboy lands a nice left. Kelly lands a couple good punches. Kelly with a big left. Cerrone gets a takedown, on top in half guard. Cerrone holding on from the bottom, holding Cowboy’s arms. Elbows from Cowboy open Kelly up and he’s bleeding badly. Got to give Cerrone the round 10-9.

Round 2 – Kelly is talking to him. Left hand from Kelly. Nice exchange. Leg kick from Cerrone. Big leg kick from Cowboy. Body kick and a punch from Cowboy but he eats a punch in return. Leg kick from Kelly. Exchange of leg kicks. Nice knee to the body from Cowboy. Leg kick from Cowboy, then a straight left. Kelly lands a nice punch and Cerrone gets a takedown, on top in half guard. Cerrone mounts and starts landing nice shots. Kelly gives up his back and Cowboy locks on a body triangle. 1:40 left to go in the round. Cowboy softens him up then locks on the choke, very tight and Cowboy submits him, and I have to say it… called this one too.

Miguel Torres vs. Antonio Banuelos

Round 1 – Touch gloves. Little leg kick from Banuelos. He blocks Torres’ body kick. Inside leg kick by Torres smacks. Another one and he eats a counter punch. Torres working a left jab. Crowd gets a bit restless. Big leg kick for Torres. Banuelos having a hard tim getting inside, but he catches a leg kick, lands a punch, Torres goes down but Banuelos lets him up and the crowd boos. Right hand from Torres scores, lands a couple quick left jabs. Right hand from Torres, then a left hab. He’s being very patient. Head kick from Banuelos misses, lands a left hook. Spinning heel kick misses for Banuelos and Torres snaps a quick left jab that scores. The crowd roars with boos. Torres should have that round 10-9. And Hackleman tells Banuelos he gave him the round.

Round 2 – Left jab from Torres. Leg kick from Banuelos. Right hand from Torres. Then a jab. One, two, leg kick from Torres. Right hand from Torres, then a nice left jab. Head kick from Torres. Uppercut from Torres but he pays for it. Inside leg kick from Torres smacks loud. Quick snapping jab from Torres. Boos from the crowd. Jab, jab from Torres. 1:30 left in the round. Right hand from Torres. Again. Banuelos’ nose is bleeding. One, two from Torres. Banuelos is having big trouble with Torres’ reach advantage. Leg kick from Torres. Left hook and a right from Torres counters a big shot from Banuelos. Torres gets the round easily though 10-9.

Round 3 – Torres starts with the jab, bap, bap. Banuelos not even close with his punches. Big boos from the crowd. Punch and a head kick from Torres. Torres continues using the jab to keep Banuelos at bay so he can’t get in. He’s out-pointing him big time but no big damage. 1:30 to go in the fight. Torres has proved he’s the better boxer no doubt about that. 40 seconds to go. With ten seconds left Banuelos swings away, spinning kick, then cusses once the bell sounds. Torres gets the round and fight as I see it 10-9 for the round and 30-27 for the fight.

Jake Ellenberger vs. Carlos Eduardo Rocha

Round 1 – Left hand then a shot from Ellenberger. Clinch, Rocha goes for a takedown but Ellenberger puts him down. Rocha gets right up.  Rocha gets the takedown and has side control. Rocha goes to north south position, trying to set something up. Ellenberger gives up his back, spins and Rocha has mount, moves to side control and is transitioning like butter. North south by Rocha, looking to tie up a leg. Ellenberger spins, gets to his feet from a front head lock. They square up. One minute to go. Rocha’s shot is stuffed and he eats a big knee. Spinning backfist to kick from Rocha that connects. They go to the ground, Ellenberger lands a few shots as they are both on their knees. Rocha  goes for an Americana from side control with ten seconds to go. Nice round and Rocha should have it 10-9.

Round 2 – Leg kick from Rocha. Ellenberger attacks, lands some knees. Rocha shots, gets stuffed and Ellenberger lands some shots. Lets Rocha up. Misses with  a wheel kick. Left jab from Ellenberger. Ellenberger swings big and misses. Head kick from Rocha smacks loud. Jumping knee to the body from Ellenberger. Leg kick from Rocha. Two minutes to go. Nice jab scores for Ellenberger. Head kick misses for rocha. Jumping knee from Rocha misses. One minute to go. Big right from Ellenberger just misses. Body kick from Ellenberger and Rocha fires back with a big kick that is blocked. Takedown from Ellenberger with just a few seconds left. I give this round to Ellenberger 10-9.

Round 3 – Leg kick from Ellenberger. Left hand from Rocha. Inside leg kick from Rocha, another one. Ellenberger lands a big leg kick. Nice combo from Ellenberger forces the shot from Rocha, gets stuffed. Wheel kick and Ellenberger ducks. Leg kick from Rocha. Inside leg kick from Rocha. Big right hand from Ellenberger snaps Rocha’s head back. Rocha misses with a punch, Ellenberger fires back and misses, shoots, stuffed. Right hand from Ellenberger. Nice head kick from Rocha but Ellenberger pushes him aside and he falls to the mat. He gets up. Right hand from Ellenberger. Rocah with a couple shots and gets taken down with about 30 seconds left. Ellenberger with some light ground and pound, postures up with a punch at the bell. Ellenberger probably got the round 10-9 and the fight 29-28.

Ryan Bader vs. Jon Jones

Round 1 –  Jones has a 10 1/2 inch reach advantage… just think about that for a moment… That’s insane and practically unheard of. Herb Dean is the ref, calls them to the center, touch gloves. Jones shoots, and Bader locks his head up. Jones has side control and Bader lets go the head. North south for Jones and Jones has Bader’s head in a lock, Jones trying to choke him out, it’s very tight. Jones lets it go. Bader puts his feet on the cage, Gets to his knees and up. Bader lunges with a left hook. Throws a right that misses. Jones being patient. Body shot. Head kick from Jones blocked. Bader shoots, stuffed. Jones in half guard. Elbow from Jones. Jones  postures up after hopping over Bader. Drops an elbow on Bader. Jones with some hammerfists to the ribs and elbows. The round is over and Bader did nothing. 10-9 for Jones. Replay of head kick shows some of it did get through.

Round 2 – Bader breathing hard. Touch gloves. Leg kick Bader. Left hook from Jones. Bader misses with a one two. Left punch from Jones and a jumping head kick. Leg kick from Jones very nice. Jones with a jumping elbow misses and Bader lands a counter punch. Leg kick from Bader. Jones does the same. Jab from Bader. Both swing big and miss. Leg kick from Jones. Bader on his bicycle. Leg kick from Jones. Again. Bader with a one two. Big leg kick from Jones and Bader shoots, stuffed. Right hand from Jones. Leg kick from Jones. Bader gets put on his back. Goldy said Bader hasn’t looked for a takedown this round but yes he has Goldy. Jones attempts a choke and Bader taps out. Bader punches the canvas. It happened very quick. It was a guillotine choke from half guard.

Forrest Griffin vs. Rich Franklin

Round 1 – Leg kick from Rich. Forrest with a head kick that’s blocked. Rich gets put on his back after a kick. Forres is on top in full guard. “Forrest” chants from the crowd. Forrest tries to pass, Franklin keeps full guard and holds on as Griffin lays on the ground and pound. Forrest with some elbows and punches. Rich not taking too much damage so far. Griffin lands a couple punches with less than two minutes to go. Griffin staying very busy. Forrest postures up lands a couple. Forrest working very hard from top. Rich holding his wrists and fighting the strength of Griffin. Big round for Griffin 10-9.

Round 2 – Leg kick from Forrest. Rich with a punch. Leg kick from Forrest and Rich counters with a couple shots. Leg kick from Griffin. Nice exchange of punches. Body kick from Franklin. Leg kick from Forrest. Forrest looks HUGE compared to Franklin. Forrest clinches Rich’s back and drags him to the ground. Rich gets to his knees, Forrest gets a hook in, lands a couple shots as Rich gets up. Forrest drags him back down but Rich is up again. Forrest pushes him away and they square up. Rich lands a beautiful left hand. Nice right from Rich countering a leg kick. Punch and kick from Griffin. Griffin tags him with a big left that makes Franklin touch his hand to the ground for balance. Another big shot from Griffin and Franklin fires back. Rich’s arm may be hurt again as Forrest kicked it a couple times very hard. Nice exchange before the bell. I score that round for Griffin 10-9.

Round 3 – Leg kick from Rich. Left hand from Rich. Nice exchange and big body kick from Rich. Forrest shoots, stuffed. Rich clinches, but Forrest shoves him off and they are back up. Head kick misses from Forrest, Rich lands one but it’s blocked mostly. Counter right from Rich. Leg kick from Forrest, and a left hook. Right hand from Forrest. Body kick from Rich. Straight left from Rich scores. Then a left hook. Forrest shoots, gets the takedown. Rich gets to his knees and feet and puts Forrest on his back. Rich passes, they get up and Forrest gets the takedown but Rich is back up. Clinch against the cage. With ten seconds left they swing it out. I give Forrest the round and fight 10-9 and 30-27. — I did mis-judge this one. I thought Rich would be able to out-strike him.

Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort

Round 1 – There’s Mr. Steven Seagal in Silva’s corner. Oh snaps! Big cheers for Belfort. Quite a few boos for Silva as he is introduced. I can’t believe this is happening. — No glove touch. Belfort feints twice. Thrice. Anderson waiting. The boos have started already. Leg kick from Belfort. Knee stomp miss from Silva. Silva dancing. Leg kick Vitor. Anderson with the flashy hand movement. Vitor tags him with a one two. Vitor takes him down after ducking a  head kick. Vitor misses with a couple punches as Anderson dodges. Anderson throws a front kick to the chin and Vitor goes down. Anderson stands over him with a couple punches and he’s out. It was a front kick right to the chin. The replay is amazing. He lands two punches afterward and the ref steps in but pretty much they were not really needed, only to make the ref stop it.

  1. I don’t know if Jones is quite ready for Shogun, that’s kinda crazy. Bader almost looked like he just gave that fight away hanging down there on the ground with him. NUTS.

  2. Every once in a while a fighter’s performance makes me question if any of the UFC’s fights are jobbed… need to go back through their catalog & write down which fighter’s & when…

  3. Atta-boy Anderson Silva, The greatest fighter OF ALL TIME! Not sure, but is that the first front kick KO in the Octagon?
