Our Pro MMA Now 2010 Awards works much like our ProMMAnow.com staff picks. Each staff member will select the winner they believe deserves the award and will explain their decision. That is it. Nothing fancy.

Pro MMA Now 2010 Female Rising Star Award

The Female MMA Rising Star Award goes to that female fighter who’s star began to shine in 2010. Most fans probably had not heard too much about this fighter prior to 2010, but they won fights and forced the MMA world to take notice. These are the female fighters who not only have great potential and talent, but have begun to put it all together and are headed toward greatness.

And the Pro MMA Now 2010 “Female Rising Star” Award goes to:

John Buhl: Miesha Tate – With four wins in 2010, including two in one night in the Strikeforce women’s tournament on August 13, Tate earned herself a title shot and, depending how well Strikeforce promotes the bout, an opportunity to become one of the top names in women’s MMA.

Richard Mann: Ronda Rousey – She has not made her professional MMA debut yet, but Ronda Rousey is poised to become a force in the women’s 145-pound division. She is currently 2-0 as an amateur. Before coming to MMA, she scored a bronze at the 2008 Olympics and a silver at the 2007 World Championships.

Jack Bratcher: Zoila Frausto – Few people knew the name “Zoila Frausto” prior to 2010. However, six fights, five straight wins and a championship belt later and this young lady’s star is shining bright. Even though she began 2010 with a loss to Miesha Tate via armbar, she quickly bounced back and scored wins over Michelle Ould and Rosi Sexton. Then she entered the Bellator 115-pound women’s tournament where she defeated Jessica Pene, Jessica Aguilar and the previously undefeated Megumi Fujii to become the Bellator women’s 115-pound champion.
