Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz (23-7) is staying put for the foreseeable future.

The promotion on Dec. 28 announced that Diaz has signed a new multi-year contract.

“When I first got here, there weren’t a lot of great 170 pound fighters for me to fight, but that’s definitely changed,” Diaz said via press release. “There’s a lot of really good fighters in the division now and I’m ready to fight anyone who thinks they can beat me.”

Diaz next fight will come on Jan. 29, when he’ll defend his title against Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos (18-13) in San Jose, Calif. Most recently, Diaz defeated K.J. Noons in a rematch of their EliteXC lightweight title bout that ended in Noons’ due to a cut.

If he gets past Cyborg, Diaz’s biggest threat looks to be fellow UFC veteran Paul Daley, who scored a highlight-reel KO win over Scott Smith on Dec. 4.
