Former NFL player and Heisman Trophy winner turned mixed martial artist Herschel Walker (1-0) suffered a cut under his left eye, forcing him to withdraw from his bout on the Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu Dec. 4 event in St. Louis.

“I feel terrible about this,’’ Walker said in a press release today. “I know things like this happen in all sports, but I had trained very hard and was excited to be returning to the cage again. I hope to fight again as soon as the cut heals.’’

Strikeforce said the cut occurred from a knee strike while Walker trained with American Kickboxing Academy teammate Daniel Cormier. Walker had been scheduled to face Scott Carson (4-1) in a televised bout on Showtime. The promotion will make an announce in the next few days about a possible replacement for the Walker vs. Carson bout on the telecast.
