Grappling superstar Andre Galvao has secured his release from Strikeforce and hopes to be a part of the next season of “The Ultimate Fighter.” Galvao revealed this information to Tatame on Wednesday.

In October, Galvao took on Tyron Woodley at Strikeforce: San Jose. Wodley caught Galvao early and finished him in less than two minutes. With the loss, his MMA record dropped to 5-2. He holds victories over Jorge Patino, Luke Stewart and John Alessio.

On the grappling mats, Galvao has competed at the highest levels of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and submission wrestling. He is a seven-time IBJJF World Champion, seven-time Pan American Champion and three-time ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championships medalist.

“The Ultimate Fighter” has served as a launching point for several current UFC stars. Fighters like Forrest Griffin, Rashad Evans and Diego Sanchez have gone on to successful careers after winning the reality show competition.

  1. I am of the same thought Richard, but I don’t really understand why. Because he is too good for the rest of the “prospects”? Because he just lost to a SF prospect (The guy that should’ve been on TUF two years ago)?

  2. TUF really isn’t about real prospects anymore. They are basically just throwing paint at the wall and hoping to get a picture at this point. Galvao deserves a shot in the UFC free and clear of the reality show.

  3. Agreed. It’s weird in the fact that I completely agree with you, but in that same breath they still find the occasional diamond in the rough (Bader, Schaub, maybe Mcgee, maybe Brookins)…
