UFC President Dana White confirmed with MMAFighting/AOL Fanhouse’s Ariel Helwani that the WEC will merge with the UFC and put its 135, 145, and 155 weight classes under the UFC banner.

The WEC is already recognized as one of the top organizations in the world for the bantamweight and featherweight classes, but giving its fighters exposure under the more established UFC name can only help. Also, top lightweights such as Ben Henderson and Donald Cerrone will have a bigger and more varied group to test themselves against.

Pro MMA Now will also cover the upcoming 1pm eastern conference call in which White plans to make a scheduled “major announcement.” If this is it, we’ll update you with all of the new details.
