Jake Shields says there are some Brazilians who have told him he could never be a black belt because he’s never trained in a gi. But Shields says he will tap most of them out with his non-black belt… and I believe him.

Shields talks about his version of jiu-jitsu which he calls American Jiu-Jitsu, and how it differs from traditional BJJ. He says unlike traditional BJJ, his style is about forcing the submission and making things happen instead of waiting for your opponent to make a mistake.

Shields says the reason he wants to fight Georges St-Pierre is because he is considered the best of the best and he wants to test himself to see where he stands. He knows it will be a tough fight but he believes in himself.

Shields will make his UFC debut against Martin Kampmann later this month, Oct. 21, at UFC 121 in Anaheim, Calif. The card will be headlined with a UFC heavyweight title bout between champion Brock Lesnar defending his title against Cain Velasquez.
