Ben Henderson will defend his WEC belt against Anthony Pettis

WEC lightweight champion Ben Henderson (12-1) will make his second title defense on Dec. 16 against contender Anthony Pettis (12-1) at the WEC 53 main event in Phoenix, according to MMAWeekly.com.

Pettis is coming off of an entertaining win over Shane Roller at WEC 50, where he slapped on a triangle choke that forced Roller to tap with less than ten seconds remaining in the fight. The win improved Pettis’s WEC record to 4-1, with the only setback a split decision loss to Bart Palaszewski.

Henderson hasn’t fought since April, when he submitted Donald Cerrone by guillotine choke. He used the same move to defeat Jamie Varner and change his title status from interim to undisputed three months earlier. Henderson is 5-0 in the WEC and only fought to a decision once, when he beat Cerrone the first time at WEC 43 in a five round interim title bout.
