Just under two years ago, Efrain Escudero won season eight of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series. But following his second loss in five UFC appearances, Escudero has been cut by the promotion, according to MMAWeekly.com.

Escudero defeated Phillipe Nover in the TUF 8 Finale, and followed that up with an impressive first-round TKO of Cole Miller. However, Escudero suffered the first professional loss of his career at the hands of Evan Dunham at UFC Fight Night 20, and last week lost to Charles Oliveira by rear naked choke submission in the third round.

The loss to Oliveira was exacerbated by Escudero missing weight by four pounds. Nevertheless, his release does appear somewhat hasty compared with how the other reality series winners have fared unless there were other reasons behind the move.

On his Twitter account, Escudero said that he plans to take some time off but has already had discussions with Strikeforce and Bellator.

Hello true fan I was released by the Ufc today speaking to strikeforce and bellator. Taking a week off and make my way back!!!!!
