Newly signed Strikeforce heavyweight Josh Barnett says his signing with the organization had been in the works for quite some time but they just finally got the details worked out. It was announced earlier this week that he had signed with the San Jose based MMA promotion.

Barnett is far from serious as he talks with FightHubtTV’s Marcos and dodges several questions such as possible opponents and when his Strikeforce debut may take place. He would not even reveal if it is an exclusive contract with Strikeforce, citing contract confidentiality.

He did point out the fact that Strikeforce is allowing him to take part in a pro wrestling bout against Tim Sylvia in Japan. Barnett questions how Sylvia will perform in the match since it is “The Maine-iac’s” pro wrestling debut.

Credit to Marcos who pushes the issue, and tries again to get some of the details regarding Barnett’s Strikeforce contract. Even still, Barnett remains firm, crosses his arms, and says, “It’s irrelevant. The amount of fights I have is the amount of fights you see me in the ring. And where I’m able to fight is where I’m able to pop up.”

Thoughts for Discussion:

Barnett’s addition to Strikeforce is a boon for their heavyweight division as long as he keeps his nose clean. For those who don’t know, Barnett won ourĀ Pro MMA Disappointment of 2009, for not only ruining what could have been one of the greatest heavyweight bouts of all time, but for putting that final nail in the coffin for Affliction.

The good news is Barnett has not tested positive for banned substances since then. Then again, both of his fights this year have been outside the United States.
