Pride – the positive emotion that is a product of independent self-reflection. I walk tall this Tuesday afternoon blocks away from the scene of my latest demise; tall because I am proud of my performance and latest thrust at achievement.

I was again on the short end of an evening battle; a battle that was witnessed by nearly four thousand eager spectators. Despite coming up short in a lop-sided decision and enduring significant damage to my left ear and right hand, I am proud of my performance.

John Ott won a decision in our Thursday night fight with Bellator Fighting Championships at the Kansas City Power & Light District. On hand to personally witness my defeat were well over a hundred of my closest friends, family members and sponsors.

I watched the replay this afternoon, courtesy of Bellator.com, and before John entered the cage for our battle he stopped to pray with his corner. This also makes me proud. I am proud that even in defeat the career of a respectful soldier has been emboldened.

After all, we are merely practicing our battles, as the true warriors of our communities lay it all on the line overseas. Let us not forget that we are at war as a country. Sure I have disciplines to work on, but at least I will get another opportunity to practice.

It was an honor to be part of such a great promotion so early in my career. Bellator has grown quickly over their two short years, as have I. As I watched the replay I heard Jimmy Smith remark that I was the first college golfer he had met that made the transition to professional mixed martial arts. Touche!

I also heard him compliment me on my ground positioning, flexibility and toughness. I started from scratch in this sport and unfortunately certain things can only be learned at full speed. I learn and I grow as I have my entire life, a humble student of the game called life.

I will spend the next couple months promoting Hillbilly Fight Wear at local MMA shows. Watch for us in Springfield, Clinton and all around Kansas City. THUMP A STRANGER!
