Twenty-three-year-old rising star Jon “Bones” Jones is currently in San Diego getting ready for his fight Sunday night against veteran Vladimir Matyushenko in the “UFC on Versus 2” main event.

Jones was awarded the unique opportunity of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch Friday at the San Diego Padres vs. Florida Marlins professional baseball game. Jones comes from a family of athletes and seemed right at home on the ball field.

He got some tips on proper mound etiquette such as adjusting  his jock and spitting and at least got the ball to home plate in the air even if it wasn’t a strike. Jones also did a little sparring with the Padres mascot. It’s nice to see professional MMA fighters getting this type of recognition.
