BRISBANE, Australia — Remember Karo Parisyan (19-5, 1 NC)? Sure you do. He’s the UFC veteran who went from being one of the toughest dudes in the world to having panic attacks so bad he couldn’t even show up to his fights.
Apparently he got enough help to show up to his Impact FC fight in Brisbane, Australia Saturday after a year-and-a-half layoff. He even picked up a rear-naked choke win over the much less-experienced Ben Mortimer (5-3).
However, nothing with Parisyan seems to go too smoothly anymore.
Parisyan was supposed to fight in the co-main event, but requested to have his fight moved to the first bout of the night to “get it over with so his family could stop worrying.” Parisyan told Sherdog,
“This was my first fight that I was away from my family, and I knew they were freaking out at home. My sister was at home throwing up. I felt like it would be better for them, and for me, if I fought first, and I could get it over with so they could stop worrying.”
Impact FC promoter Tom Huggins said,
“Karo came to me, and said it was really important for him to be the first fight of the night, so we made it happen.”
Alrighty then.
Josh Barnett (26-5) gave Geronimo dos Santos (17-11) his fourth loss in six fights with a first round ground-and-pounding that took the once top-ranked heavyweight only two-and-a-half minutes.
In other fights, Jeff “The Snowman” Monson (34-11) ground out a unanimous decision win over Ubiratan Lima Marinho (11-4), and Thierry Sokoudjou (9-6) got a much needed TKO win over Joquim Ferreira (8-6) in the first round.
