Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker confirmed the long rumored women’s 135-pound tournament. During an appearance on MMAWeekly radio, Coker said that a one-night 135-pound tournament will take place on Aug. 13 in Phoenix.

Coker also confirmed that the promotion will feature tournaments in both the 135 and 145 pound division, but 135 will be the first. Sarah Kaufman will defend her title in that division against Roxanne Modafferi on an upcoming Strikeforce card. The winner of the tournament will earn a shot to face the winner of that title fight.

The promotion has not announced any participants for the 135-pound tournament. However, Marloes Coenen and Carina Damm have both been rumored as possible fighters. Coenen last fought for Strikeforce, when she challenge Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos for the promotion’s 145-title.

On the radio show, Coker did confirm that top-female-fighter Tara LaRosa will not participate in either tournament. LaRosa recently dropped a decision to Modafferi at the Moosin MMA.
