Apparently the bout between Alistair Overeem (33-11, 1 NC) vs. Ricco Rodriguez (42-11) will take place at DREAM 15 on Saturday, July 10 after all.

MMAJunkie first reported the bout on Tuesday, but then later retracted, stating that Overeem would not fight Rodriguez and may actually never fight for DREAM again.

The site later clarified the report on Thursday, stating that Overeem does intend to finish his contract with DREAM and may fight at DREAM 15, but most likely not against Rodriguez.

However, the Wrestling Observer came out with a two line statement on Friday that simply reads:

Alistair Overeem vs. Ricco Rodriguez confirmed
Fight takes place July 10th for DREAM at the Saitama Super Arena.

ProMMAnow.com contacted Rodriguez’s agent Ken Pavia via email to confirm the bout and he somewhat cryptically replied:

We have plane flights…

We have also attempted to contact Overeem’s manager but have yet to hear back.

Overeem is currently on an eight fight win streak (with one No Contest thrown in for good measure). Seven of the eight wins he finished in the first round, the other he finished in the second.

Rodriguez is on a seven fight win streak. He finished off six of the seven opponents, and has knocked out his last four.

DREAM 15 will air live on HDNet Saturday, July 10, at 3:00 a.m. ET. The event is headlined with a lightweight title fight between Shinya Aoki (23-5) defending his DREAM 155 lbs. crown against Tatsuya Kawajiri (26-5-2).
