Ward defeated Zoila’s sister, Stephanie Frausto, via first round rear-naked choke at Bellator 22 on June 17 in Kansas City, and no doubt, Zoila, who is seven years the elder, would like to avenge her “little” sister’s loss.
There is a good possibility the elder Frausto and Lisa Ward could meet in the very near future.
Ward has been named as one of the eight women competing in Bellator’s season three 115 lb. tournament. And although Frausto was not originally picked for the tournament, her recent destruction of Rosi Sexton, the number one ranked women’s flyweight fighter, has opened up a new slot in the tournament.
Breaking news from Bellator has just confirmed that Frausto is being awarded Sexton’s spot in the tournament which begins on Aug. 12. Although the first round match-ups have not yet been named. Frausto’s eyes are on Ward.
Frausto made a lot of changes coming into the fight against Sexton. Originally from Fresno, she moved her camp to Cincinnati, Ohio to work with Team Jorge Gurgel. Gurgel, who is now Frausto’s boyfriend, was in her corner Thursday night in Louisville when she beat Sexton.
With a former UFC standout in her corner, a new diet and training regimen, and coming off a win over the previously number one ranked flyweight, Zoila Frausto will be riding a ton of momentum into Bellator’s season three women’s tournament.
