Brian Imes vs. Gary Tapusoa was the main event for "True Fight Fans: Clash in the Cage" on June 25, 2010.

I got involved in this business to gain some discipline and answer my own darkest questions. I knew that I was in for some painful lessons and humbling public experiences. The part about being a fighter that I love the most is the highs and lows of my work performance are shared with friends, family and complete strangers.

We recorded another chapter in my career Friday night at the place where my career began. Whisky Tango is a huge country bar east of Kansas City off Interstate 70. I competed in the Main Event for the Middleweight Title with True Fight Fans Promotions.

My opponent was a Samoan born American named Gary Tapusoa. This was my first fight at middleweight after spending my nearly two years as a professional in the heavyweight and light heavyweight divisions.

The weight cut was exhausting but I felt that I recovered well after, as I was nearly 198 at fight time. Gary was as game an opponent as I have ever faced in my career. I was intent on making this a stand up fight, using my length to frustrate my opponent, but it was me who became frustrated.

Gary landed several heavy overhand rights and eventually finished my night forcing a referee stoppage from my friend, Rusty Sullivan.

So now we move forward, my coaches and I. We learn from my mistakes and improve on my strengths. After nearly two years I have been fortunate to fight some of the best the Midwest has to offer.

I have been submitted, choked unconscious and beaten up, but I have also finished a 30 fight veteran and submitted an Ultimate Fighter veteran. I am in the best shape of my life and improving daily in every aspect of the game.

I am surrounded by people who selfishly contribute to my professional growth. Hillbilly Fight Wear is growing steadily and I have built great relationships helping promote Bellator Fighting Championships at the Kansas City Power & Light District.

I didn’t win the title Friday night, but I gained so much in life experience. Some people call me crazy, but I don’t know any other way to look at it. Life is hard and it’s lessons can be painful.

True success only comes from sacrifice and resilience. I am young in this game and obviously have a lot to learn, but I am yet beaten. I am The Human Cockfighter.
