Dave Meltzer has reported that Joe Stevenson suffered a knee injury in training and is now out of his fight with former Pride FC champion Takanori Gomi. Tyson Griffin will step in and fight Gomi at UFC on Versus 2.

Griffin has won seven of his 10 bouts inside the UFC’s Octagon. In his most recent outing, he dropped a split decision to fellow Xtreme Couture fighter Evan Dunham. His other two defeats have come at the hands of current UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and former champion Sean Sherk. During his run in the promotion, he has bested the likes of Clay Guida, Gleison Tibau and Hermes Franca.

In 2005, Gomi defeated Hayato Sakurai in the finals of the Pride lightweight Grand Prix to earn the tournament title and the promotion’s lightweight title. He successfully defended the title once against Marcus Aurelio before the promotion closed its doors. Over the course of his career, he has defeated Jens Pulver, Ralph Gracie and Mitsuhiro Ishida.

A light heavyweight bout between Jon Jones and former IFL champion Vladimir Matyushenko will headline UFC on Versus 2. The event, initially scheduled for Salt Lake City, will take place in San Diego on June 14.
