SAN JOSE, Calif. – Strikeforce returns to the HP Pavilion this evening with “Fedor vs. Werdum“, a four-fight main card headlined by Fedor Emelianenko vs. Fabricio Werdum which airs live on Showtime beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on West Coast).

“Fedor vs. Werdum” play-by-play:

Bobby Stack vs. Derrick Burnsed

Round 1 – The fight opens and Stack takes the center of the cage. Burnsed lands a good left. Burnsed eats a leg kick, but lands a nice jab. Stack throws a jab and misses. Stack lands a hard punch and is taken down. He gets right back to standing and gets to the back of Burnsed. Bothe still standing. He puts Burnsed’s back against the cage and starts to work in the clinch. The two exchange shots. Burnsed lands a knee. Stack lands a nice knee. The two get into an exchange after the break, and Stack lands a takedown. The referee stands the fight up and Stack gets another takedown. The round ends.

Round 2 – Stack throws a left head kick, but misses and eats a hard right from Burnsed. Stack goes down. He recovers and puts Burnsed up against the cage. He tries to pass the guard and puts him against the cage. Burnsed scrambles to his feet as Stack shoots again. Stack pulls Burnsed up slams him to the mat. Stack stays in his guard for a while. Burnsed gets back to his feet and Stack pushes him against the cage and throws a hard knee. Burnsed reverses the position against the cage. Stack trips him to the mat landing in half-guard. Burnsed rolls Stack over and gets to mount. Burnsed goes for an arm-triangle but can’t finish. Burnsed postures and goes into some ground and pound. Then back to the arm triangle.

Round 3 – Stack misses a head kick and Burnsed misses an overhand right. Stack throws up a spinning back kick and misses. Stack shoots but Burnsed ends up on top and then to half-guard. Stack can’t get his hips out. Burnsed gets to mount and Stack rolls over. Burnsed can’t get hooks in. Stack reverses and gets to top. Burnsed attempts an arm bar. Stack scrambles out and the fight gets back up. Stack pins Burnsed up against the cage. Stack tries for a takedown but Burnsed sprawls and gets to his back. Stack gets on top when Burnsed attempts to pass guard. Stack shoots and comes out on top and Burnsed a goes for a guillotine attempt.

Yancy Medeiros vs. Valdir Araujo

Round 1 – Araujo opens up with a heavy legkick. Araujo throws a right hand feint that backs Medeiros up. Medeiros steps in with a light flurry. There’s another exchange and Medeiros lands a left hook, then the two tie up. Araujo pushes Medeiros against the cage. The two separate. Medeiros throws a right followed by a left hook that misses. Araujo and Medeiros exchange again. Medeiros lands big with a jab to the body and a right to the head. Medeiros throws a huge right cross. Medeiros lands a body kick. Araujo lands another hard leg kick. Medeiros continues to move forward and is backed off by a flurry by Araujo. Araujo with another hard leg kick. Medeiros throws a weak push kick. Araujo shoots. Round 2 – Medeiros lands a leg kick. The exchange some more but miss each other. Medeiros lands a hard shot. Medeiros backs Araujo up against the cage and lands a straight right that puts him down Referee stoppage.

Bret Bergmark vs. Vagner Rocha

Round 1 – Rocha lands a good straight left and right. The two seem just fine standing up as Bergmark throws a solid leg kick. Rocha shoots, but Bergmark sprawls. Rocha gets a takedown. Rocha works from inside the guard, and starts to stand up looking to pass. Rocha drops punches down on Bergmark and then goes back into guard. Rocha lifts Bergmark off of the mat a little and then slams him down. Bergmark scrambles out and the two go back to standing. Bergmark lands another good leg lick then followed by a jab. Rocha shoots and puts Bergmark against the cage. Then he gets the takedown. Rocha works to pass the guard. He drops some short punches from inside the guard. Then some big punches.

Round 2 – Bergmark comes forward and Rocha throws him off. Bergmark lands a hard leg kick. Rocha lands a solid left hand then gets a takedown. Bergmark stands up getting out. Rocha throws a left hook then takes a shot in. He ends up in the clinch with Bergmark. Rocha’s back is against he cage. He doesn’t stop working throwing knees and punches. Bergmark throws a good knee to the head and then scores a takedown. Bergmark trys to pass. Guard gets passed but Rocha gets to his knees. Rocha shoots, but Bergmark lands on top. Rocha secures half-guard then Bergmark stands up. Bergmark

Round 3 – Rocha slips but comes back to standing. Rocha lands a few good jabs as Bergmark works the inside leg kick. Rocha throws some good shots. Bergmark answers with a combination, but hits nothing. Rocha shoots and ends up in an anaconda choke. Rocha shoots for half-guard. Bergmark drops the anaconda and they go back to standing. Rocha lands a short right. Bergmark tees off with a leg kick and then follows it up with a solid left hook and straight right. He drops punches on Rocha, who falls to his back. Bergmark lands a huge right hand. The straight right drops Rocha.

Chris Cope vs. Ron Keslar

Round 1 – Keslar goes in and gets the single leg, passes Chris’s guard, and gets to mount. Cope rolls to give up his back. Keslar locks up a body triangle and starts throwing punches to the side of the head. Keslar tries for a rear naked choke. Cope tries to slip out.

Round 2 – Keslar gets to the back and locks a body triangle. Cope escapes. They get up. Cope lands a groin kick. Ref stops. Cope throws a spinning back kick that almost lands on Keslar’s head. Cope lands a spinning kick to the face of Keslar. Keslar shoots in immediately. Cope gets the sprawl. Keslar is hanging on to one leg. The referee stops the fight from that position. Keslar just was holding the leg and not defending himself.

Pat Healy vs. Josh Thomson

Round 1 – Nice left from Healy. Thomson shoots, gets the takedown but Healy is right back up. They clinch. Healy goes for a takedown, Thomson takes his back, slides up into an armbar attempt. Healy escapes, but Thomson transitions into another armbar attempt. Healy pulls is arm out, they stand up, Healy grabs a body lock and uses a small suplex to put Thomson back down, then takes Thomson’s back with 1:30 left in the round. Thomson hits him with a back elbow and escapes, goes for a heel hook. Healy escapes tries to get the takedown. Thomson is out and up. they clinch, Healy tries for a takedown and Thomson ends up in half guard. Close round, I give it to Thomson 10-9.

Round 2 – Big leg kick from Thomson, again. Healy closes in, gets the takedown. Healy takes Thomson’s back, he’s up high, with one hook in, has both hooks now. Thomson spins over and Healy is now on top in half guard. Healy landing some punches, grinding this thing out. Thomson trying to get out, gets to his feet briefly but Healy gets a slam. Thomson goes for an armbar but Healy is out. Thomson lands elbows to the thighs, Healy scrambles ends up in Thomson’s full guard. Thomson looking for an armbar. Thomson had a good hold on it, but Healy escaped and moves back into Thomson’s full guard. Healy gets that round 10-9.

Round 3 – Thomson lands a right, then a left. Nice right from Thomson. Another right then left from Thomson. Healy lands a stiff left. Front kick from Thomson scores. Healy swings and misses, lands a body shot. Left hand from Healy connects to Thomson’s chin. Healy backs Thomson against the cage, clinches, Thomson escapes the clinch. Healy walks him down, pins him against the cage, grabs a double and puts Thomson on the mat. Thomson turtles, Healy gets on his back and Thomson flips him over and lands on top of Healy. Healy turtles and Thomson takes his back with a figure four around his waist. Thomson sinks in the rear naked choke. 1:00 left. It’s deep. Only 32 seconds left. Healy held on for about 30 seconds and finally is forced to tap out from Thomson’s technical expertly applied rear-naked choke.

Strikeforce Women’s Middleweight Championship
Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos vs. Jan Finney

Round 1 – Forrest Whitaker is in the house. Cyborg looks in great shape. Nice right by Jan Finney. Cyborg attacks, they clinch. Cyborg with knees from the clinch. They break. Cyborg lands some shots, and a big knee to the face of Finney. Finney dropped for a second and tried for a takedown and that’s when the knee hit her. Cyborg lands some big punches and Finney drops for a takedown. Cyborg is pounding her as she goes for the takedown. Finney lands a punch, Cyborg eats it and fires back. Finney is down again. Cyborg with a huge knee to the ribs. Cyborg is docked a point for hitting Jan Finney in the back of the head. Finney comes back in. They exchange punches, then clinch up. Cyborg lands some punches and Finney tries to fire back, she drops levels, grabs Cyborg’s leg. Big fround and pound punches from Cyborg. Finney is not defending herself, she’s turtled up trying to grab Cyborg’s leg. Cyborg pounded on her and the ref just watched. Probably should have been stopped. 10-8 for Cyborg.

Round 2 – Big right hand from Finney but Cyborg fires back, nice stiff left from Cyborg, again. Finney drops to her knees. Cyborg lands some big uppercuts, then goes in for the ground and pound. The ref tells her to fight back. Ref lets Finney up. Cyborg lands a couple big shots but Finney still standing. They clinch. Cyborg lands a big right and left. Finney lands one. Ref separates them. Leg kick Cyborg. Finney lands a jab and Cyborg attacks with big punches and a big knee to the mid-section that drops Finney and finishes the fight. The ref finally stops it. Big respect to Finney though, she did much better than many  may have expected.

Cung Le vs. Scott Smith

Round 1 – The rematch has begun. Smith comes in fast. He tags Cung. They clinch, he pushes Cung against the cage. Big elbow from Smith. The fans chant for Cung Le. Shot to the body from Smith. Smith head hunting. Le fires back with punches as he backs up. Nice right by Le. Nice leg kick from Le. Smith chasing Le now. Le throws his first side kick then rocks Smith with a straight left. Smith shoots in and Cung sprawls. Smith is turtled up. Cung throws a few knees into his shoulder. Le pounds his body with punches. Smith pushes forward, presses Cung to the fence as he stands. They get back to the center and Cung lands a nice punch, then a head kick that is partially blocked. Cung drops Smith with two knees to the face. Smith is turtled up. Cung is throwing big body punches. Smith doing nothing. Cung gets the round 10-9.

Round 2 – Cung lands a couple of punches and a kick to the head. Smith still coming forward. Head kicks from Cung, then a spinning back kick. Liver shot from Cung drops Smith. Smith turns into a turtle one more time. Smith stands back up with Cung hanging onto his back. Cung puts some knees into the back of his thighs. Smith turns around and starts coming at Cung again. Cung drops him with a spinning heel kick to the body. He’s hurt Cung goes over to him and puts some huge punches to the body and one final knee to the body and it is over my friends. Beautiful performance from the movie star, putting on a movie star performance. The replay shows that spinning heel kick landing with the heel right in the gut. Cung has avenged his only loss with this win.

Fedor Emelianenko vs. Fabricio Werdum

Round 1 – The Saint from Stary Oskol is ready to do his thing. I have butterflies in my stomach. Chills up my neck. Leg kick from Werdum barely skims the leg. Fedor waiting. Drops Werdum with a punch. Werdum looking for and armbar, he puts Fedor in a triangle. It’s very deep. This is the abu dhabi champion. It’s almost over. It’s over. Werdum just submitted Fedor Emelianenko. It was bound to happen. Fedor got over anxious, he was completely dry and just too tight. Fedor stayed in his guard too long. It was a triangle armbar combination.

Fabricio said after the fight that Fedor is the best in the world even though he won the fight. When asked what was going through his mind, Fedor said, “Frankly nothing. The one who does not fall, does not stand up.”

Fedor said he was concentrating on the striking and made a mistake. They will analyze what happened. Fedor still has one more fight on his Strikeforce contract and he said he will be back.
