After setting the UFC record for the fastest knockout at seven seconds in his UFC debut last August, heavyweight Todd Duffee (6-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) entered the Octagon at UFC 114 this past Saturday night undefeated and surrounded with a ton of hype. Duffee warned people before the fight that he was “over-hyped,” and he called his opponent Mike Russow (13-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) “highly underrated.”

As the fight between Duffee and Russow progressed, Russow looked anything but underrated. The superhero-esque Duffee had not knocked him out but he had landed plenty of big shots and somehow, even though Russow had mounted little defense, and even less offense, he kept standing.

As the fight neared the halfway point of the third round, it looked as though they would go the distance with Duffee winning a very one-sided unanimous decision. However, at 2:32 of round three Russow hit Duffee with a straight punch right on the chin as he was rushing in, and that was it. The fight was over, Duffee was out cold, and Mike Russow had just made one of the most amazing comebacks in pro mixed martial arts history.

Duffee talked about the loss in a recent post on The Underground:

It was on the temple I felt the shot…it just shut down the cns system couldn’t use my arms to catch my fall or anything I was watching everything till my head hit the canvas (which may have put me out) I blinked and he hit me with a hammer fist….the way I fell made it look much worse than it was…I wasn’t gassed I was more frustrated and trying to stick to the game plan should of threw that out after the first 30 seconds …my game plan was horrible……I wasn’t snapping punches instead I was muscling them should of kicked should of grappled should of fought….I’ll be back and show I am more than capable of wrestling etc.

Thanks for the support and thanks to the people who helped me out sorry I let you down it will pay off in the long run.
