After losing five fights in a row, and seven of his last ten, Jens “Lil’ Evil” Pulver (22-13-1) has been released from the WEC. MMAFighting.com confirmed the news with UFC President Dana White over the weekend.

He was the UFC’s first lightweight champion. He was a hero for the little guys, and proved to the world they could be just as exciting, if not more so, than the big guys.

Pulver holds wins over such fighters as B.J. Penn, Joe Stevenson, Dennis Hallman, John Lewis, and Caol Uno. Pulver’s most recent victory was against Cub Swanson at WEC 31 in Dec. 2007.

There are those who believe Pulver should retire completely from the sport. While his days as a top level competitor have obviously passed, he could make a decent living on the regional circuit. He has recently stated that “he has no choice” but to continue fighting.

At the time of publication, Pulver’s profile page is still up on the WEC website: www.wec.tv/JensPulver.
