PORTLAND, Ore. – “Strikeforce – Challengers 8″ takes place this evening at the Rose Garden Arena and will broadcast live on Showtime beginning at 11:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. PT. Headlining tonight’s card is Olympic Silver Medalist Matt “The Law” Lindland (21-7) vs. “King” Kevin Casey (3-1), a protégé of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend Rickson Gracie. Also on the card is a welterweight showdown between undefeated Tyron Woodley (6-0) and local standout fighting out of Team Quest, Nathan Coy (8-2).

Other main card bouts include Roger Bowling (7-0) vs. Bobby Voelker (21-7), Tarec Saffiedine (8-2) vs. Nate Moore (6-1), and Bryan Travers (13-1) vs. Pat Healy (22-15).

Pat Healy vs. Bryan Travers

Round 1 – Travers starts with a jab.  Healy comes back with a jab of his own, lands a double jab followed by a right hand.  Nice combo with the leg kick, then right hand by Travers.  Inside leg kick scores for Travers.  Healy comes back with a nice right hand, then to the clinch.  Right hand to the body by Travers.  They disengage as Travers punches his way out.  Left hook by Travers lands square.  Healy shoots and gets stuffed.  Travers with a nice knee to the body.  Travers is setting the pace early.  Dirty boxing inside from the clinch by Travers.  Healy with a jab, then right hand to the body.  Healy with a right hand, Travers counters with a leg kick.  Straight right hand connects for Healy, Travers changes levels and takes Healy down.  Healy works to his feet quickly.  Healy to the body then to the right hand.  Back to the clinch, with Healy’s back against the cage with 1:30 to go.  Both guys land uppercuts inside the clinch.  Big overhand right misses by Healy, then he goes to the plum clinch.  Both guys working the body from the clinch.  More dirty boxing on the inside by both guys in a very close round.  ProMMAnow.com scores Round 1 for Bryan Travers, 10-9.

Round 2 – Travers scores with the leg kick, with Healy stalking and landing straight punches.  Back to the clinch, with Travers against the cage.  They seperate and Travers throws a wild right hand, Healy ducks and shoots for the takedown, and gets it.  Healy elevates Travers again and takes him to the mat.  Travers back to his feet but has Healy on his back.  Travers reverses and puts Healy against the cage, then they disengage.  Healy with a left hand to the body, and then flurries with a 4 punch combination.  To the clinch, with Healy landing to the body, then changing levels and looking for the double leg.  Healy works Travers to the ground, but only for a moment.  Healy with the suplex, then takes the back of Travers.  Healy gets a hook in but slips off and is now landing big knees and punches to the face and body.  Healy with 7 or 8 punches to the body, then a big knee to the body.  High crotch takedown attempt by Healy, but Travers scrambles.  Healy works him to the ground, but Travers is back up again.  Healy landing to the body as the bell sounds.  Pretty easy round to score.  ProMMAnow.com scores Round 2 for Pat Healy, 10-9.

Round 3 – Inside leg kick, then a big right hand lands flush to the face of Travers.  Big exchange with both guys landing.  Left hand to the body, then right hand to the face of Travers.  The jab is landing squarely for Healy.  Nice big kick by Travers, then Healy shoots and gets a big slam, then takes the back of Travers.  Travers crawls to the cage, and is looking to stand.  Healy lands a knee to the thigh of Travers.  Travers is back up, with Healy looking to dump him right back down.  Healy with left hands to the body as he overhooks with his right.  Travers with a nice knee to the body.  Healy hurts Travers with a big knee to the thigh of Travers.  Healy lands a big knee to the jaw from the clinch before they separate.  Healy with a left to the body.  Travers shoots and gets the take down.  Healy isolates the right arm of Travers, as Travers looks to secure and maintain top position.  Healy looking to get the arm out and go for a kimura.  Healy loses it then gives up his back.  They stand again with Travers on the back of Healy.  Travers gets the double and takes Healy down.  Very close round again, and this one will determine the fight.  Another big takedown by Travers, but Healy scrambles out and takes the back of Travers, then he gets a big suplex and maintains control on the ground.  Healy working on the arm again and they both scramble for position.  Back to the feet with :10 seconds to go and Healy is throwing everything he has as the bell sounds.  Very tough call…. Tarec Saffiedine vs. Nate Moore

Round 1 – Moore goes to the kick right off the bat then doubles up the jab.  Moore with the jab and big right hand.  Saffiedine and Moore exchange and both guys land big punches.  Saffiedine feinting as Moore misses with the jab.  Moore shoots in after a faked kick by Saffiedine.  Saffiedine works to defend and pulls out of the single.  Saffiedine punches as he comes in and clinches and Moore throws a big combo and punches his way out.  Inside leg kick by Moore.  Superman punch just misses, then a big exchange with Moore looking very tight and straight with his punches.  Big body shot by Saffiedine and a big right hand hurts Moore.  Moore shoots and Saffiedine steps to the side and takes the back and secures the hooks in.   Very high on the back by Saffiedine as Moore looks to shake him off his back.  Saffiedine steps off and they take the center of the cage.  Big leg kick by Saffiedine.  Moore puts together a 3 punch combo but nothing lands.  Saffiedine steps in and lands with the left hand.  Moore misses again with his punches.  Saffiedine still faking kicks.  Leg kick scores by Moore.  Saffiedine with a nice jab and big right hand.  Moore counters but misses.  Push kick by Saffiedine.  Flying knee by Saffiedine lands and it’s a brawl with :10 seconds to go.  Close round but ProMMAnow.com scores Round 1 for Tarec Saffiedine, 10-9.

Round 2 – Moore with the leg kick.  Both guys throw and land kicks.  Moore doubles up with the jab.  Saffiedine with a a 3 punch combo followed up with a leg kick.  Inside leg kick by Saffiedine.  Saffiedine throws a big overhand right forcing Moore to shoot for the takedown.  Saffiedine shakes it off and lands a huge left uppercut that staggers Moore.  Moore is turtle up and still looking for a single.  Saffiedine pulls out, lands a left hand, then blasts Moore with a right hand that KO’s him where he was standing.  Big finish for Saffiedine.

Roger Bowling vs. Bobby Voelker

Round 1 – Bowling with a big right hand to the body then two big lefts that stagger Voelker.  Bowling takes Voelker down and starts the ground and pound.  Bowling in the half guard of Voelker.   Bowling to the body then head of Voelker as he looks to pass to side mount.  Bowling still landing big left hands from top position.  Voelker scrambles up but eats some big punches.  Bowling headhunting now.  Huge body kick and and big right hand from Bowling.  To the clinch now, with Voelker against the cage.  Bowling pulls out then lands a head kick to the head of Voelker.  Left hand by Bowling, Voelker counters and lands an uppercut.  Voelker with the left hook but eats a counter kick from Bowling.  Big left hook from Bowling, then to the right hand to the body.  Bowling is putting huge power combos together and landing a high percentage of them.  Bowling to the uppercut, then a 4 punch combo.  Bowling eats a counter, but then connects to the body, and takes Voelker down.  Complete control by Bowling.  Bowling is now on top and in the full guard of Voelker with :30 seconds to go in the 1st.  Body shots from Bowling with :10 seconds to go.  ProMMAnow.com scores Round 1 for Roger Bowling, 10-9.

Round 2 – Bowling lands a big right hand and Voelker is down!  Ground and pound from the top by Bowling.  Bowling looking to pass the guard of Voelker, but Voelker is doing well defending from his back.  Bowling isolates the left arm and is looking for a kimura.  Voelker uses the cage to defend, and as Bowling steps out and away, he lands with the right uppercut and follows up with a big left hand.  Straight jab snaps the head of Voelker.  Huge body kick by Bowling, and again to the body.  Voelker lands a kick of his own.  Bowling lands a big left hook, this guy is a warrior!  Bowling steps in and gets an easy double leg takedown.  Bowling is the full guard of Voelker again.  The referee is calling for action.  Bowling tries to posture but Voelker is defending nicely from his back.  Bowling back to the body.  He’s peppering the body as Voelker tries to work a high guard.  The referee intervenes and stands them up.  Big kicks to the body again by Bowling .  Voelker steps in and scores with his right hand.  Voelker gets the takedown and puts Bowling on his back.  Bowling rolls and gives up his neck but quickly is out of trouble and is back on his feet.  Trip takedown by Bowling and Voelker is on his back again.  ProMMAnow.com scores Round 2 for Roger Bowling, 10-9.

Round 3 – First time Bowling has been in the 3rd round.  Huge exchange with both guys landing big shots in a slugfest.  Voelker lands a flush shot and Bowling is stunned for a second.  Bowling shoots, is stuffed then stands and throws bombs.  Bowling looking for the takedown but ends up on his back.  Voelker is now in top position and is landing short hammerfists.  Bowling rotates his hips for a sub attempt then scrambles up to his feet.  Bowling to the clinch as he puts Voelker’s back against the cage.  The referee steps in and separates the fighters, and it looks like Bowling got poked in the eye.  The referee gives Bowling some time, but Bowling looks like he got an abrasion from the glove and may not be able to see.  Bowling cannot continue as the doctor and referee call it.  This one is going to the cards.

Tyron Woodley vs. Nathan Coy

Round 1 – Inside leg kick by Coy.  Big right hand by Woodley.  Both guys scramble into the clinch and Woodley works Coy to the mat.  Woodley is now in the full guard of Coy.  Coy is staying busy on his back and looking to escape or sweep.  Woodley passes to full mount, but Coy kicks him off, stands and goes upstairs with the kick but eats a big right hand and is dropped.  Coy stands back up and both guys exchange. Woodley goes upstairs but Coy ducks.  Coy with the leg kick then shoots and gets stuffed.  Woodley to the back of Coy.  Woodley gets his hooks in, forcing Coy to roll.  Woodley trnasitions to the arm triangle buy Coy is out and they are back up on their feet.  Coy sets up the takedown with the kick, then shoots but Woodley defends and stuffs it.  To the clinch with Coy working the thighs of Woodley.  Coy goes for the throw but Woodley is quickly back to his feet.  Big knee from Woodley to the body.  Coy comes back with knees to the thigh, then up the middle to the body.  The referee steps in and separates them after a stall in the action.  More kicks from Coy as Woodley misses with the right hand.  Coy goes to the head with the kick then shoots for another takedown attempt.  Woodley scores from the clinch with the knee.  Straight left hand lands to the face of Woodley.  Right hand, leg kick combo from Coy.  Back to the clinch with less then :20 seconds to go.  ProMMAnow.com scores Round 1 for Tyron Woodley, 10-9.

Round 2 –  Woodley and Coy exchange kicks to start the second.  Woodley misses with the jab and right hand.  Coy comes forward and lands to the body.  Coy comes back and is establishing his leg kicks.  Woodley lands with the uppercut, but Coy is controlling the pace so far.  Woodley stings the body of Coy with a right hand.  Coy mixing up his kicks and knees.  Coy is starting to land first and is now in control.  Back to the clinch.  Coy is landing with knees to the thighs and elbows to the legs of Woodley.  Coy drops his head and eats a knee from Woodley.  Big knees from Coy, as Woodley counters with a knee of his own.  The referee steps in again, and it looks like Woodley is having an issue with his eye also.  Back to the action.  Coy lands to the body, then with a left hand.  Woodley counters with a big uppercut, and Coy comes back and lands also.  Coy scores with a left, right, then body shot, and Coy is bouncing on his feet now.  Inside leg kick from Coy, then he goes upstaris but slips and is now on his knees.  Woodley has a front headlock as Coy looks to stand.  Woodley transitions to the back of Coy and gets a hook in.  Coy rolls, the ends up on his back flattened out with Woodley on his back.  Woodley in top position landing hammerfists.  Coy rolls and is mounted, then Woodley transitions to the armbar as the bell sounds on Round 2.  ProMMAnow.com scores Round 2 for Nathan Coy, 10-9.

Round 3 – Feints by both guys, and Coy comes back with the inside leg kicks.  Coy scores with the jab as Woodley hesitates in throwing hands of his own.  Coy is working the body of Woodley.  Coy scores with a straight left hand. Big exchange by both guys.  Body shot by Coy and Woodley counters with the right hand.  Stiff jab to the jaw of Woodley.  Woodley shoots and scores a takedown.  Coy gives up his back as he sits up.  Woodley gets a hook in, Coy scrambles, but Woodley still has his back.  Coy turns in and goes for a takedown of his own with the high crotch, and gets it.  Coy is now in the half guard of Woodley.  Woodley retains full guard, then rotates and is looking for a leg.  Coy has the left arm of Woodley trapped and is now dropping right hands.  Woodley kicks off, but is still on his back.  Woodley is trying to use the cage to stand but Coy pulls the hips out and retains top control.  Big right hands to the body by Coy.  This may determine the fight right here if Woodley cannot get to his feet.  Woodley goes for an arm looking for a kimura but Coy defends and remains on top and in side control as the fight ends.  ProMMAnow.com scores Round 3 for Nathan Coy, 10-9, and the fight overall to Coy, 29-28.

Matt Lindland vs. Kevin Casey

Round 1 – Casey with a leg kick, then to the clinch.  Lindland throws Casey to the mat and is now in the full guard of Casey.  Casey staying very active off his back, as Lindland looks to posture.  Back to the feet, with Lindland locking up the thai clinch.  Casey reverses and puts Lindland against the cage.  Lindland locks up the head of Casey and pulls guard looking for the guillotine.  Casey now on top and looking to pass the guard of Lindland.  Lindland scrambles but gives up his back.  Casey gets a hook in, and Lindland looks to turn in and defend the RNC.  Casey locks up the body triangle and has Lindland in trouble.  Lindland working the 2 on 1, peeling the hands of Casey off of his neck.  Casey is locking it up, but Lindland pushes the hands off and turns in and lands big shots to the head of Casey.  They are back on their feet now and Lindland is landing big knees to the body.  ProMMAnow.com scores Round 1 for Matt Lindland, 10-9.

Round 2 – Casey fakes with the punch then looks to take the fight to the ground.  Lindland clinches and puts Casey’s back on the cage.  Lindland works to the back of Casey, and Casey goes to his knees.  Lindland steps over and looks to get his hooks in.  Casey rolls and is now on his back with Lindland landing some good shots from the top.  Casey rolls to his knees with Lindland controlling his head with a front headlock.  They both stand still clinched, and Casey is looking to get the fight to the ground, but Lindland drops Casey back to his knees with the head control.  Casey looking for a leg, but Lindland is retaining control from the top.  Casey is limited from his back with his head against the cage.  Lindland staying busy with short strikes from the top.  Lindland now standing in the guard of Casey and dropping big right hands to the face of Casey.  Casey retains full guard, but Lindland stands back up in the guard.  Casey rotates his hips and looks for an arm but Lindland recognizes it and is out of trouble.  Total domination in this round by the veteran Lindland.  Lindland to the crucifix and is landing big shots with about :10 seconds to go.  Casey somehow escapes at the bell, but it was a lopsided round dominated by Lindland.  ProMMAnow.com scores Round 2 for Matt Lindland, 10-9.

Round 3 – Lindland with the left hand misses, and Casey counters but there isn’t much on the punches.  Lindland takes the fight right back to the ground, and Casey is looking to sweep, but Lindland is maintaining control from the top.  Lindland with elbows to the body.  Lindland now with left hands to the jaw of Casey.  Lindland is dominating the action from the top.  Lindland is now dropinng bombs from the top alternating hands as the referee calls for Casey to defend himself.  Lindland has the right arm of Casey trapped, and is dropping huge punches from the top, then alternating to elbows to the body.  Lindland stands in the guard of Casey and is still landing unanswered shots…where is the ref???  Finally, the referee steps in and stops the onslaught.
