SOMERVILLE, Mass. – Are you a professional MMA fighter looking for a shot at the big time? On Tuesday, May 4, Bellator Fighting Championships will hold an open workout at Mark Dellagrotte’s Sityodtong Academy located at 100 Broadway, Somerville, Mass. 02145. The phone number at the academy is 617-625-7339. Driving directions can be found on Sityodtong’s website: www.sityodtong.com.

Registration begins at 12:00 p.m. ET and tryouts begin at 1:00 p.m. ET. The tryouts are open to both male and female fighters, and instructions indicate all fighters must have an MMA.com federal I.D. and must bring their own gloves.

The professional mixed martial arts fighter who is selected at the open tryout will earn a spot on one of Bellator’s upcoming nationally televised Season 3 events in August, September, or October. Bellator is also scouting talent for Season 3 tournaments.

It is a great opportunity for up-and-coming fighters to take that next step in their career. Take for example, 24-year-old Tyler Stinson who won Bellator’s last open tryout, which took place in Kansas City back in March. It was just a little over a month later Stinson got to fight Dan Hornbuckle live on national TV at Bellator 15.

The May 4 Bellator tryouts at Sityodtong will take place just two days before Bellator’s nationally televised event on Thursday, May 6 in Boston. The event marks the first time a major MMA promotion has hosted a nationally televised event in Boston since the Massachusetts state legislature became the 42nd state in the U.S. to officially sanction the sport in Nov. 2009.

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney spoke about the significance of holding tryouts in the Boston area:

“New England is a hotbed for MMA talent so we jumped at the chance to host another tryout in Boston while we will be in town for Bellator 17.  At our last two tryouts in Kansas City and South Florida, we discovered some great talents including Tyler Stinson and Bryan Goldsby. As the first major MMA promotion to come to Massachusetts, we’re in a very advantageous position to find some great unsigned fighters here.”
