SACRAMENTO, Calif. – “WEC 48: Aldo vs. Faber” takes place this evening in Northern California’s Arco Arena. “Aldo vs. Faber” is the WEC’s first-ever pay-per-view event, and it is no coincidence it is being held in Sac-town, which is the hometown of the promotion’s most well-known fighter, Urijah “The California Kid” Faber (23-3). In fact, April 22, 2010, in Sacramento, is now known as “Urijah Faber Day”. Now that is cool. You know you have made an impression on people when you officially get your own day.

Faber will attempt to regain the WEC Featherweight Title as he takes on current champion Jose “Junior” Aldo (16-1). Aldo is a young Brazilian MMA  phenom who has had six fights since joining the WEC in 2008, and has knocked out all six opponents. UFC President Dana White has stated that Aldo asked to fight Faber in Faber’s hometown. Now that’s something you don’t hear every day. Faber is healthy and hungrier than ever, and this is a main event that should put most any MMA fan on the edge of their seat.

The co-main event is a re-match from a memorable Oct. 2009 bout that won Sherdog.com’s “Fight of the Year” and saw Benson “Smooth” Henderson (11-1) win a unanimous decision over Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (11-2) for the WEC Interim Lightweight Title. Since their first bout, Henderson won the real lightweight title by submitting Jamie Varner with a guillotine choke in the third round at WEC 46 back in January. And “Cowboy” submitted Ed Ratcliff with a rear-naked choke at WEC 45 in Dec. 2009. Now “Cowboy” will get his shot at revenge and get one more opportunity to win the highly coveted lightweight championship that has eluded him thus far in his career.

Spike TV will air two live fights from the “WEC 48: Aldo vs. Faber” preliminary card beginning at 6:00 p.m. PT/9:00 p.m. ET. The pay-per-view broadcast begins at 7:00 p.m. PT/10:00 p.m. ET. And stay with us here at ProMMAnow.com as we provide live results and play-by-play commentary throughout the night. If you want to check out our predictions before the fights, see the article entitled “ProMMAnow.com WEC 48 staff picks”.

Following tonight’s fights you can watch the “WEC  48: Aldo vs. Faber” post-fight press conference in a live video stream in our UFC Room.

21 thoughts on ““WEC 48: Aldo vs. Faber” results and play-by-play”
  1. I’m hearing Tyler beat Visher by TKO. I think your results above were reversed.

I’m not buying this PPV. Going to local bar to watch.

  2. Jung beat Garcia.

I had picked Mike Brown to win, but at the weigh ins he kept looking away from Manny’s eyes. It looked as if he’s a bit worried. Don’t be suprised if Manny gets it.

  3. goddammit i knew i should have changed my pick. fuck. I could see it at the weigh ins man. he wouldn’t look at Manny.

  4. I can’t believe Aldo didn’t finish him off. Are all of Ed Soares’ fighters nuts? Maybe that’s a requirement to be managed by him.

  5. I thought it was lame that the commentators Mike and Joe never mentioned “WEC” champion but rather “organizational” champion. I understand UFC wants to eventually dissolve WEC into the UFC but not this soon. It was weird not to see WEC signs, logos in octogon or gloves.

  6. @Cansirkilla: if that’s true then it’s weird that Zuffa didn’t market this as WEC. But I did hear Dana White saying that he sees these featherweight coming to The UFC one day. I took that as WEC coming to an end. I guess only time will tell or perhaps the PPV number from last nite.

  7. Dana White says that the reason for WEC logo not being on air was due to Spike and Versus being different channels and UFC and WEC although owned by same company are different shows. For two different channels to work tofgether had to remove WEC logo.
