CHICAGO – “Bellator 14” takes place today at the historical Chicago Theater in downtown Chicago. The card will feature bouts in the welterweight, featherweight and lightweight tournaments. The main card will air live on Fox Sports Net. Check local listing here.

    Louis Taylor vs. Ryan Sturdy

    Round 1 – The fighters work in and out to start the fight. The arena is oddly quiet. Sturdy tries a leg kick that misses. Sturdy counter a kick with a punch and starts a clinch. Thomas break break the clinch and lands a strong head kick that drops Sturdy. Sturdy is out, but he eats a few shots before the referee stops the fight.

    Pat Curran vs. Mike Ricci

    Round 1 – The fighters circle to start the round. Curran tries a leg kick and then a front kick. He tries the same sequence again. Ricci with a jab that is off the mark and then a hard body kick. Curran continues to work the front kick. Ricci throws a high kick but it is blocked. The pace is very slow. Ricci tries to throw a cross, but Curran backs him up with the front kick. He then comes forward with a right. Curran wades in with a right hook that drops Ricci, and then he finishes off his Canadian opponent with a nasty ground combination.

    Wilson Reis vs. Shad Lierly

    Round 1 – Lloyd Irvin gives Wilson Reis some last minute instruction from the corner, and the fight is underway. The fighters both fhrow hard corsses, but neither one lands. Reis rushes in, and Lierly defends. Reis eats kick and gets a takedown, his opponent circles behind. They break. The fighters are swinging wildly, Shad is getting the better of the exchanges. His reach advantage allows him to land. Reis bullies him into the cage and catches a knee to get the takedown. Reis works to pass, but he is stuck in guard. He passes to half guard. He uses his instep on the leg and works his way into mount. He tries to posture up and goes for an armbar, but he slips off. Lierly gets back to his feet in the scramble. Reis goes for an inside trip takedown, but slips. He gets up and finishes another takedown. In a scramble he takes Lierly’s back. Lierly defends the choke with good wrist control. Lierly tries to sweep, but he gets caught in a triangle. Lierly escapes and then drags Reis back to the ground. Reis gets a takedown with ten seconds left in the round.     Round 2 – Reis throws and overhand, but Lierly ducks. Reis shoots in and pulls guard. He is able to work a sweep and end up on top. From guard he lands a few shots to the side. He passes to half guard. He whips his leg over and take the mount. Lierly scrambles and they get back to their feet. Reis goes for a double and eats a knee from Lierly. Reis switches off to a high crotch and eventually twists Lierly to the mat. From half guard Reis lands two good knees to the body. He tries to strike from the top, but nothing is landing hard. He tries more knees. Lierly regains full guard right before the clapper. ProMMANow score is 10-9 for Reis

    Round 3 – Reis gets a hard right through the defense. He throws another one and ducks under the counter and scores a double leg. He passes almost immediately to side control, but Lierly regains half. Lloyd Irvin tells him to stay in the half guard, and he passes to mount. He lands a few shots and grapevines the legs. Lierly tries to scramble and gets back to half guard and then full. Reis works his way back into the mount. He finally postures up and lands a few shots. This causes Lierly to try and scramble. When he does Reis lock in the rear naked choke and get the submission victory

    Ben Askren vs. Ryan Thomas

    Round 1 – Thomas lands a hard 1-2 combination. Askren shoots in and gets a body lock. He easily finishes the takedown. Thomas goes a triangle choke and it is locked up pretty tightly. Askren is able to circle and get his head free. Askren is now working to pass half guard. Thomas gets caught in a D’Arce choke, but he is able to escape and change position. Askren presses him against the cage and finishes a single. Askren deals with another triangle attempt. He circles to north-south position and locks in a guillotine choke. The referee stops the bout even though Thomas does not appear to tap.

    Thomas and his corner are extremely upset, because it was obvious that he did not tap out.

    James Krause vs. Toby Imada

    Round 1 – Imada comes in with a right hook. Krause goes for a head kick that misses. He then lands to the leg and to the body with two more kicks. Krause lands an upper cut, but then eats a combination from Imada. He shows some good head movement by avoiding a combination. Imada catches a kid and uses it to take Krause down to the mat. Krause tries to employ the rubber guard on the bottom, but Imada pushes it away. Imada gets to a back crucifix position in a scramble, but Krause rolls back to half guard. Imada passes to the mount, but Krause is able to use his flexibility to get back to half. Krause tries to scramble, but Imada locks in an omaplata. Krause escapes and ends up on his back with Krause in his half guard. Imada gets back to full guard and goes for an armbar, but his attempt is not close. Krause stands over a grounded Imada and tries to come down with strikes. Krause lands a few shots from the top but nothing major. Krause stands and Imada goes for a leg lock. In doing so Krause lands a few hard hammerfists. ProMMANow score is 10-10

    Round 2 – Krause starts to work the jab. Imada comes back with a kick. Krause throws a kick that is caught by Imada and then he is taken down. Imada goes for the back crucifix position again, but Krause scramble to guard and then his feet. He comes to his feet and takes Imada down. Imada goes for a Kimura lock on the ground. He then abandons it and pushes Krause into the cage. Imada drops for a double leg and finishes the move. Imada lands a pair of strikes from the guard and then passes. Krause scrambles and works for a single. Krause postures up and gets caught in a triangle. He defends well, but Imada transitions to an armbar and secures the tap.

    Felice Herrig vs. Jessica Rakoczy

    Round 1 – Herrig comes out with some kicks that don’t land. Rakoczy throws some wild shots and some of them land. She then pushes Herrig into the cage. Herrig is able to get off the cage, but eats an upper cut. Herrig is able to get double underhooks and finish a takedown in the center of the cage. She works on top from half guard. Rakoczy tries to get back to her feet. but Herrig brings her back to the cage. Rakoczy gets back into full guard, but Herrig passes again to half. Josh Barnett in the corner of Herrig is calling for elbows. Rakoczy is able to reverse the position and end up on top inside full guard. Herrig tries rubber guard for a second, but gives it up. Rakoczy tries to work on top, but she is able to land very many shots. She stands and Herrig catches her in an armbar, and uses it to sweep. Once on top she starts unloading shots. She was on the way to the finish when the bell rang. ProMMANow 10-9 Herrig

    Round 2 – Herrig goes back to the front kick to start the round. Rakoczy lands a hard left, but Herrig counters nicely. Rakoczy pushes Herrig into the cage. Herrig goes for a guillotine choke, but her opponent slams her way out. Rakoczy goes for a few shots to the body. Herrig locks in a triangle from the bottom and it looks tight. She also goes for the armbar, but eventually Rakoczy is able to work her way out and remain on top. Herrig still has the armbar. Rakoczy escapes to her feet. Herrig goes for another guillotine and once again Rakoczy is able to slam her to the mat and escape. Rakoczy is on top, but really doing nothing. Herrig is working from the bottom. Herrig goes for an armbar. Rakoczy circles around it and lands what looks like an illegal knee. The fighters are back to their feet. Herrig lands a few kicks as the round ends.     Round 3 – Herrig throws a leg kick and a right hand down the pipe. Herrig goes for a double leg takedown, but it is stuffed. Rakoczy gets double underhooks and lands a few knees. She then throws Herrig into the cage. The fighters exchange knees along the cage. Rakoczy lands a nice elbow in the clinch. Both fighters separate and throw straight punches that do not land. Rakoczy comes in with a combination and eats a right counter for he trouble. Lead punch lands for Rakoczy. Hard lead hook lands. She is starting to land hard shots as another hard hook lands. Herrig changes levels for a double leg and pushes her opponent into the cage. Rakoczy defends well and the fighters break. Both fighters land hard hooks. ProMMANow score is 10-9 Rakoczy

    Jeff Curran vs. Bryan Goldsby

    Round 1 – Goldsby tries to come in, but Curran defends with a side kick. He then pumps out the jab, but Curran is out of range. Goldsby lands a hard lead hook. He then comes back with a kick that lands flush on the cup of Curran. After a brief break Goldsby tries a jumping kick to the head, but it misses. He comes in again and Curran lands a super fast combination. He then lands a straight down the pipe that breaks up a combination. Curran’s more technical boxing is starting to show. Goldsby lands a hard shot to the body and Curran slaps him. They touch gloves after the slap. Goldsby goes for a capoeria kick. Curran then goes to for a takedown and Goldsby jumps against the cage to defend. Goldsby ends up on top in Curran’s guard. He lands a few hard shots on top. Then let’s Curran back to his feet. Goldsby comes forward with some power shots and chases Curran around the cage. ProMMANow.com score is 10-9 Goldsby

    Round 2 – Curran starts the round off with some kicks, but Goldsby is out of range. Both of the fighters are throwing, but neither are landing. Curran goes in for a takedown. It is stuffed and then he is thrown to his back. Goldsby is camped out in side control. Curran tries to scramble and ends up in north-south position. Curran is able to regain full guard. He goes for a trianlge right away, but Goldsby escapes and stands. Goldsby comes forward with some hard knees, but Curran is able to counter with a hook. Curran lands a hard shot to the body and follows up with a hook to the head. Goldsby lands a kick and Curran mocks him by sticking out his rear. Goldsby muscles Curran to the ground, but stands up because Curran threatens with a submission. ProMMANow score is 10-9 Goldsby

    Round 3 – Curran comes out more aggressive on the feet in the third round. He jumps guard in a scramble, but Goldsby pushes him away. Curran is coming forward while Goldsby circles. Curran lands a tough shot, and continues to come forward. He then lands a hook as Goldsby tries to circle away. Both fighters are throwing leg kicks and Curran is getting the better of them. Curran tries a jumping kick that misses. Curran lands the best combination of the fight. A clean one-two down the pipe. Goldsby is staying out of range very well, but he is not landing when he comes in. They kick at the same time and Curran eats another hard shot to the cup. The fight is back and Curran continues to chase Goldsby around the ring. At the bell Curran goes for some desperation kicks, but nothing lands clean. ProMMANow score is 10-9 Curran
