On Saturday, April 10, the Ultimate Fighting Championship travels to Abu Dhabi for the very first time for “UFC 112: Invincible”. Headlining the card are two title fights featuring middleweight champion Anderson Silva vs. BJJ phenom Demian Maia in the main event, and lightweight champion B.J. Penn facing number one contender Frankie Edgar in the co-main event.

On  Tuesday, Silva, Maia, Penn, and Edgar, via teleconference, fielded questions from the media regarding the upcoming event. Below is the audio as well as a few notes from the call.

SILVA

Heavyweight is definitely something he has in mind… and has been adapting his training and style for new challenges.

Anderson feels he is far from cleaning out his division… His goal is to put on many great fights as he can… at middleweight, light heavyweight, and heavyweight.

How are you B.J.?

MAIA

I think in this fight I’ve been practicing more with my wrestling, cause that’s what I need to do, in this fight I need to take Anderson down..

I know now he can’t train with me (Nogueira) because I’m fighting his teammate, but that’s no problem for me. I have another teammate to train with. I know they would help me but they can’t right now… it’s just the business.

PENN

If everything goes well on April 10th, I would definitely consider moving up to 170 lbs… If I do make that move, I want to move slow, and not rush anything…

Frankie Edgar is not the guy to look past… I’m not thinking about anything past April 10th.

There’s Kenny Florian, Gomi, Gray Maynard… they all have a good shot at fighting for the title one day.

We head tomorrow to Abu Dhabi. We’ll get their a little over two weeks early.

I don’t think I have cleaned out the division the way Anderson Silva has… I think it’s different for each individual.

Anderson Silva is awesome!

EDGAR

For me it’s an honor. It has forced me to bring out the best in my training, and I’ve improved a lot preparing for someone of his stature.

Because he’s so highly touted, it’s really forcing me to focus and bring my A-game.

B.J. is not someone you can really bring in to emulate, he is definitely one of a kind.

…I’ve brought in Phil Nurse and been training with Eddie Alvarez too, I think he’s been a pretty good key to my training.

I’m excited to fight outside… I’m not too concerned with how the weather is going to be.
