“Bitetti Combat 6” is going down this evening in Brasilia, Brazil, and although the original fairly stacked fight card has taken a beating, hopefully enough fighters will show up to put on a good event. The current fight card looks something like this:

Play-by-Play Commentary:

Our buddy Dennis Asche from Connection Rio, is commentating. The first three fights are being streamed free on Sherdog.com. “India” is pronounced “In-ja”.

Ediene “India” Gomes vs. Amanda Nunes

This is a ladies fight. Ediene is from American Top Team. Amanda is wearing a white tank top. India is wearing a black ATT shirt.

Round 1 – Amanda lands a right hand and India pulls guard. India throws shots from the bottom, Amanda stands up and kicks her in the thighs. India gets up, they tie up, and swap shots. Amanda throws a leg kick, a punch, and India shoots, but gets stuffed. Repeat. Except this time Amanda takes her back after the sprawl. India escapes and gets a body lock from the front. India puts her down on her back, starts to soften her up with body shots from inside Amanda’s full guard. The Brazilian crowd boos the closed guard of Amanda. Amanda goes for an armbar, no dice. Amanda trips India, but India turns it into a submission attempt. Amanda stands up and kicks the thighs of her opponent. India still on her back, Amanda attacks, takes her back as the bell sounds. Round 2 – Amanda comes out swinging, backs India up. Leg kick from Nunes. India lands a couple punches too but Nunes getting the better, lands a big shot. India shoots, it gets stuffed and Amanda takes her back. India spins out, and Nunes stands up, kicks her thighs then jumps back on top of her on the ground. Nunes in side control, gets full mount and lands some big punches. India in survival mode at this point. Nunes still in full mount laying on the ground and pound. Reminding us all of a female Mark Coleman (that’s a beautiful thought isn’t it?), the ref finally stops the pounding.

Felipe “Mongo” Arinelli vs. Cesar “Mutante” Jesus Ferreira

Round 1 –  Mutante in the black shorts. Mongo in the red shorts. Mutante lands the first couple of punches and backs Mongo up. Kick to the groin by Mutante. Ref shows a yellow card, and time out is called. Mongo misses a head kick. Mongo lands a punch. Mutante scores with his own punch and Mongo lands a leg kick on the inside. Mongo with another leg kick. Crowd boos at lack of action. There’s action, just not connecting. And Mutante scores with a punch. Leg kick by Mongo to the inside, and again. Leg kick by Mutante. Mongo scores with a shot and Mutante goes down to his back. Mongo follows to the ground and is inside Mutante’sguard. Mutante gets back to his feet and they clinch against the cage. They separate and square up again. Mongo catches a kick and lands a punch in return. (stream goes out before the round ends). Replay shows Mutante landing a good shot to the chin. Round 2 – Mongo shoots, gets stuffed. Mutante locks on an arm triangle choke. Mongo does not tap and goes to sleep. Wow! He locked that choke on very quickly. Cesar “Mutante” is from Gracie Barra.

Luiz “Buscape” Firmino vs. Francisco “Massaranduba” Drinaldo

Round 1 – Buscape means “firecracker”. Drinaldo working a jab as Buscape shoots in. They clinch up, Buscape pushes him against the cage, Drinaldo reverses, knees to the thigh. Buscape reverses and throws knees as well. Drinaldo backs up from the clinch, eats a left punch. Buscape shoots, grabs a single. Drinaldo goes for a knee bar and Buscape taps out. They weren’t sweaty yet and Buscape couldn’t get free. Beautiful. It looked like a ankle lock / knee bar combo. Buscape is hurt and limping as he gets up.

Leandro “Batata” Silva vs. Gustavo “Labareda” Sampaio

Round 1 – Gustavo has a wardrobe malfunction with his glove, has to get it taped up just as they started to warm up and work up a sweat. Gustavo has a wide karate type style stance. Leandro scores with an overhand right. Lots of feinting by both fighters. Leandro swings big and eats a punch. Gustavo lands a few big leg kicks. Gustavo lands a nice right.

Round 2 – Leandro gets a takedown and has side control. Gustavo is able to get half guard. Leandro lands a few punches, still in half guard. He stands up, Goes into full guard. Gustavo locks him up but is also staying very active. Leandro’s glove has tape flying off it. He passes to side control, then half guard, lands some nice punches while trapping Gustavo’s wrist. Gustavo explodes, gets back to his feet. They stop to fix the tape. Leandro is issued a yellow card supposedly because he threw a knee on the way to their feet. It seemed to be a bad call. They exchange a few shots before the bell sounds.

Round 3 – Gustavo’s hands are very low. And he eats an overhand right, right on cue. Leandro shoots, gets a double leg, picks up Gustavo and puts him on his back hard, lands in side control. Leandro lands a few knees to the body, now in half guard. Both men styaing active, Leandro transitions back to side control. Leandro goes for a kimura, Gustavo escapes it and is back to his feet. They square up. Leandro puts Gustavo right back down with a double leg, now in full guard. Leandro does a back flip after the fight.

Yuri Villefort vs. Julio Cesar Merenda

Round 1 –  Julio with an inside leg kick. Head kick by Yuri connects slightly. Julio takes him to the ground. Yuri stands up and they exchange a barrage of punches. Julio drops to his back. Yuri attacks, gets full mount. Yuri being patient on top, he locks on a triangle armbar, Julio breaks free, and Yuri is on top in his full guard. Yuri lands a few punches, and Julio grabs on.  ProMMAnow scores teh round 10-9 for Yuri Villefort.

Round 2 – Julio has the height advantage. Yuri is only 18. Inside leg kick by Julio. And again, and lands it in the groin. Lands another inside leg kick. And again. Right hand by Yuri misses, he over punches and Julio jumps on his back. Yuri escapes. Julio stands up and kicks Yuri’s legs. Ref lets Yuri up. Left straight punch scores for Yuri. Julio catches a kick and lands a punch. Yuri lands a few shots and Julio shoots, gets stuffed. Yuri grabs a Muay Thai plum and lands a big knee. Julio backs off, and looks to be very tired. Yuri lands a big right hand that snaps Julio’s head back. Yuri seems tired as well. Both fighters’ hands are down. Yuri stops in the middle of the cage and puts his hands on his hips. Yuri waits it out and doesn’t try to finish and the bell sounds. ProMMAnow scores the round 10-9 for Yuri Villefort.

Round 3 – Leg kick scores for Yuri. Right hand lands for Julio. Julio catches a high kick from Yuri and throws him to the ground. Julio tries to attack, and Yuri goes for a heel hook. Julio escapes, lands some punches to the face. Yuri goes for another sub attempt then transitions to full mount. Julio is holding on around Yurii’s waist. Yuri being patient, keeps pounding on Julio’s face when he gets tired of hanging on. Julio goes for a leg lock it looks like, and escapes the mount briefly. Yuri lands some nice punches from the mount, but Julio escapes. Yuri gets side control, then full mount again. Yuri doesn’t have enough power to finish him and the bell sounds. Cristiano Marcello vs. Emiliano Cobra Vatt

Round 1 – Leg kick by Cristiano and another big one, and another. Cobra swings big but misses. Cristiano rushes in, the lock up and go to the ground with Cobra on top in Cristiano’s guard. Cristiano locks up an arm bar and it’s all over my friend, just like that. Pure skill.  By the way, Cristiano is the same guy that choked out Krazy Horse Bennett in the famous Youtube video.

Danillo “Indio” Villefort vs. Cassiano Tytschyo

Round 1 – Leg kick by Danillo. Danillo lands a nice stiff punch that rocks Cassiano’s head back. Cassiano swings big with looping punches, he misses and gets clipped right on the button by Danillo. Tytschyo goes out cold and lands flat on his back. He’s out of there and Danillo is hyped up.

Glover Teixeira vs. Joaquim “Mamute” Ferreira

Round 1 – Mamute took the fight on one day’s notice in place of Jeff Monson. Glover’s a big dude. Glover takes aim at Mamute’s chin with punches. Leg kick from Mamute. Both guys swinging big, they clinch up and Mamute swings away, and lands some punches to the face of Glover. Mamute grabs a single leg, looking for a takedown. Glover defends, and the ref restarts them. Both guys are swinging big and Mamute is hurt, he’s stunned. Glover puts on the pressure, Mamute goes to the ground and Glover is in his guard putting on the ground and pound. It looked as though Mamute might have been done but now on his back with full guard, he appears to have got his senses about him. Mamute looks for a sub but Glover gets full mount, then half guard. The ref stands them up. Glover lands a big right that drops Mamute. The bell sounds and the round is over. Mamute is groggy. ProMMAnow scores it 10-9 for Glover Teixeira.

Round 2 – Mamute still willing to trade punches. Mamute shoots in, gets stuffed. Shoots again, and holds on to Glover’s leg. Glover gets free, lands some knees. Ref separates them, Glover lands some big shots, Mamute goes down and the ref calls it. It’s over. For taking a fight on one day’s notice Mamute didn’t do bad at all.

Thales Leites vs. Rico Washington

Round 1 – Here we go with the main event. Mario Yamasaki is the ref. Rico jabbed right after touching gloves. Kind of a cheap shot really. Thales has the height and reach advantage. Rico clinches up, and Thales backs him against the fence. Thales takes him down with a leg trip and Thales has side control.  Thales locks on an arm triangle and Rico taps. That’s all she wrote folks. Leities wins it in round one.

  1. Typical Paulo, he probably flaked out again. It was a decent card. Nothing spectacular. Couple a good fights. Monson probably wouldn’t have added much excitement to be honest. He’s good, but I’ve never heard anyone classify Monson as “exciting”.
