"UFC: Fight Night 18" was held at Nashville's Sommet Center in April, 2009, and set the record for the largest Fight Night attendance in UFC history.

ProMMAnow.com has learned from from sources close to the situation that Strikeforce will hold their next CBS card at the Sommet Center (pronounced “So-may”) in Nashville, Tenn. on Saturday, April 17, 2010. The event is expected to be headlined with a middleweight title fight between champion, Jake Shields, defending his title against Dan Henderson, who will be making his Strikeforce debut.

Other fights which could take place on this card include Gegard Mousasi vs. Muhammed Lawal, Antwain Britt will likely face Rafael Feijao or Aaron Rosa, and Cung Le has expressed interest in possibly fighting at this event as well.

Since sanctioning professional mixed martial arts in 2009, Tennessee has already held two UFC events. “UFC: Fight Night 18” in Nashville set the record for the highest attended “Fight Night” event in UFC history, and by all accounts, “UFC 107: Penn vs. Sanchez” in Memphis was a huge success as well.

With innumerable local fight promotions throughout the state, a host of quality MMA schools, and a state nickname that proves its fighting roots grow deep, the Volunteer State has the perfect environment to help support and grow the sport of mixed martial arts.

With Shields and Henderson expected to headline this card, one is forced to question what will become of the highly anticipated heavyweight title fight between Fedor Emelianenko and Fabricio Werdum.
