Dream veteran Joe Warren will return to his Greco-Roman roots this Saturday as he competes for the U.S. in the Kit Carson Cup. The event will take place at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The competition will feature Greco-Roman dual meets between four U.S. teams and teams from China, Japan, Uzbekistan and Bulgaria

Warren was one of the country’s best hopes for a gold medal at the 2008 Olympics after conquering the 2006 World Championships and the 2007 World Cup. After winning the 2007 World Team Trials he tested positive for marijuana and was subsequently suspended for two years. His suspension ended in July 2009.

While on his suspension, Warren embarked on a surprisingly successful MMA career. Despite having little experience he made it to the semifinals of Dream’s featherweight Grand Prix. Along the way he defeated former WEC bantamweight champion Chase Beebe and Japanese icon Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto.

Warren, like 2008 Olympian Ben Askren, has made it clear that he intends to compete in both MMA and wrestling. Last summer he announced his intentions to compete in the 2012 games in London.

Liu Deli, a name that might be familiar to MMA fans, is also competing in the event for Team China. Deli has made an appearance at a Sengoku event and then returned at Dynamite!! 2009. At both shows the hulking specimen expressed his desire to fight MMA.
