The ND State Bison

Clearly the biggest story of the weekend was No. 1 Iowa’s victory over No. 3 Oklahoma State. The match happened last Saturday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in front of 10,967 fans. The two squads split the 10 matches, but in the end bonus points gave the Hawkeyes their 52nd straight dual meet win.

Iowa sophmore Montell Marion pulled of an improbably upset of No. 5 Jamal Parks at 141 to pace his team. Leading 3-0 entering the third period, Marion rode Parks out for the entire third period. The sophomore improves his record to 12-2 on the season. Other winners for Iowa include Matt McDonough, Brent Metcalf, Jay Borschel and Phillip Keddy. The Bison Shock Boise
While most wrestling fans were awaiting Saturday’s fireworks, North Dakota State pulled off an improbable upset over No. 6 Boise State on Friday night. Despite giving up a forfeit at 133 pounds, the Bison were able to score a 25-22 victory over their ranked opponent.

Entering the 197-pound match Boise State trailed by only three points. North Dakota State sophomore Drew Ross came through with a fall to seal the match. Ross caught Matt Casperson with only 38 seconds left in their match. (boxscore)

Maryland dominates Wendy’s Duals
Behind a 3-0 day from returning all-American Hudson Taylor, the No. 9 Maryland Terrapins scored victories over Purdue, Ashland and No. 14 Kent State. No. 15 John Asper also went 3-0 on the day. (boxscores) (video coverage)
