FieLDS Dynamitte!! 2009 results & play-by-play commentary

New Years is Japan’s biggest holiday and they have put together a fitting fight card to celebrate that fact. Japan’s two largest MMA organizations, DREAM and Sengoku, along with K-1, have joined forces for one amazing 18-fight event.

18. Main Event: K-1 (5×3 minutes, 1×3 ext.): Masato vs. Andy Souwer
Round 1
Body kick lands for Masato. Souwer lands a pair of hard leg kicks. Masato throws a hard straight right down the middle. He lands a three punch combination and finishes with a body shot. The fighters trade leg kicks. Another hard leg kick from Masato. Souwer goes to the head with a kick. Masato put a pretty one-two right on the money. Masato back Souwer up with a triple jab and lands a hard leg kick. Souwer responds with a leg kick of his own. Masato lands another power shot the ignites the crowd. Souwer catches a kick as the bell rings.

Masato lands a kick to the body. Souwer sweeps the leg. Masato lands a pair of one-two combinations. Stiff jab from Souwer. Masato catches him with a lead hook. Inside leg kick lands for Masato. They clinch and Souwer shoves him through the ropes. Masato is landing at will on the outside. Souwer lands a nice right hand counter off the exchange. Masato puts two up top and then lands to the body. Another body show lands for Masato, but Souwer lands a left hook. Souwer goes to the outside leg. Masato goes to the liver. Souwer responds with a three punch combination. Souwer seems to be gaining steam at the end of the round.

Masato lands a stiff leg kick. After an exchange he slips. Masato works a jab from the outside and finishes with leg kicks. Masato brings two jabs and a hook. The referee breaks the clinch. Souwer lands a hard body shot and a clinch knee. Masato lands three leg kicks and a jab. Souwer comes back with a leg kick of his own and a counter left. Masato lands back-to-back hard outside leg kicks. Souwer goes high to the head, but it does not damage Masato. Masato lands a lead knee to the body and then a double jab. Souwer lands two leg kicks sandwiched around a jab.

Masato jabs and then goes to the body with a kick. Souwer tries to kick and eats a right. A hook lands for Masato. He follows it up with a jab and a thigh kick to the outside leg. Two right crosses land in a row. Souwer comes back with a body shot. Souwer throws a knee, but then eats a leg kick. Masato throws a straight right and drops Souwer in the middle of the ring. Souwer is up before the count. Masato comes back with a leg kick. Souwer goes high but does not land. Both fighters land right cross and outside leg kick combinations. Souwer comes forward working, but gets caught with jabs and straights. Souwer comes back with two outside leg kicks and two very hard knees in clinch. Masato looks hurt. The bell sounds.

Upper cut and a high kick land for Masato. Double jab from Masato is counter by a leg kick from Souwer. Souwer lands a kick to the body. Masato jabs and then clinches in the center of the ring. Souwer lands an upper cut to the body and some knees in the clinch. Masato lands knees to the body. The fighters trade upper cuts. Masato lands a counter left lead. Souwer lands a pair of counters and comes forward with a body knee. With 20 seconds left he gets desperate. Masato starts landing straights.

17. Sengoku: Satoshi Ishii vs. Hidehiko Yoshida
Round 1
Ishii throws a one-two down the pipe that doesn’t land. Yoshida tries a jab, but it also doesn’t land. Yoshida lands a right over the top. Ishii presses forward and catches a few upper cuts. Ishii lands a counter hook without much power. Ishii catches a hard right from Yoshida, but he is hurt. Yoshida continues to come forward and land. Yoshida lands a knee. Ishii looks to be in trouble. Yoshida lands a knee to the body. Another right lands for Yoshida. Ishii comes forward with a one-two but it is short. Yoshida lands another overhand right. An upper cut lands for Yoshida. Ishii lands a light left on Yoshida. Yoshida stares at his opponent as the bell rings.

Round 2
They clinch and Ishii lands some upper cuts. Yoshida lands a knee on the break. Yoshida lands the overhand right again. Ishii swings the lead left often, but Yoshida is always out of range. He lands it but with no power. Yoshida is landing his jab almost at will. Ishii presses Yoshida into the corner. Ishii works for a single and Yoshida grabs the ropes to stay up. Ishii starts pushing knees into Yoshida in the corner. Ishii goes for a trip, but it isn’t there. In the corner, Yoshida gets the plum but eats some body shots. Ishii lands some uppercuts and a jab. Ishii seems to be loosening up and landing more effectively. Ishii gets the plum and lands some knees to the body. One goes to the groin and Yoshida is down and in pain. Yoshida cup is cracked. He takes it out of his pants and tosses it into the crowd. The give him a new one, but he looks seriously injured. There was an announcement that Ishii received a red card, which is a point deduction. The fight is finally restarted. A high kick from Yoshida is caught. Ishii gets the takedown and passes to side control as the bell rings.

Round 3
They clinch to start the round. Ishii goes for a trip, but it isn’t close. Ishii gets the clinch again. He presses Yoshida against the ropes, but the referee quickly breaks them. Ishii clinches and lands an unpper cut. Ishii tries for the legs, but Yoshida defends well. The referee breaks them out of the corner again. Yoshida lands an outside leg kick. Ishii pushes forward to get the clinch against the ropes and punches the body. He goes for the trip again, but doesn’t work. Ishii lands two nice right hands. Then a left. He lands a shoulder thrust and a left. Ishii works in the clinch. He really wants the throw. Yoshida shoots for a high crotch, but the sprawl stops the attempt. Ishii throws light punches to the head the referee breaks the position. Ishii throws wild and lands an upper cut.

16. DREAM vs. SRC: Shinya Aoki 22-4-0 vs. 12-3-1 Mizuto Hirota
Round 1
Aoki shoots in for a single and stands up with it. Aoki presses him into the corner and works for a double. He quickly passes the feet as Hirota sits up against the ring post. Aoki has Hirota’s arm behind his back. He punches the unprotected face. The arm is twisting far up Hirota’s back. The arm is starting to twist far behind the back as Aoki has the mount. He continues to twist and the arm breaks it in a jarring shape.

15. Dream (3×5min): Gegard Mousasi 27-2-1 vs. 23-19-1 Gary Goodridge
Round1
Inside leg kick lands for Mousasi. He moves in and easily finishes a double leg takedown. Mousasi starts to land hard shots from his feet to the downed Goodrigde. He covers up well and survives. Mousasi sits on Goodridge’s face. He is working for a Kimura. He unleashes more shots to the ground opponent and finishes the fight. Goodridge protests.

14. DREAM vs. SRC: Alistair Overeem 31-11-0 vs. 15-8-0 Kazuyuki Fujita
Round 1
Fujita circles the ring. Hard leg kick lands for Overeem. Overeem comes forward for the clinch and lands a hard clinch knee. Another knee lands to the head. Another knee from Overeem knocks Fujita between the ropes. The referee stops the fight.

13. DREAM vs. SRC: Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto 17-2-0 vs. 15-7-5 Masanori Kanehara
Round 1
Kid comes right across the ring, but is thrown off by Kanehara. Kid hits him hard and stuns him. Kid seem ready to throw power shots as he bounces on his feet. A left staggers Kanehara back but he looks alright. Kid ducked and landed a right. Kid eats a knee from Kanehara. Kanehara lands a straight right when Kid tries to throw a leg kick. Kanehara takes time to recover from a low blow. The fighters leg kicks. Kid lands a power shot down the pipe. Kanehara eats a straight as he goes for a takedown. Kid goes for a guillotine, but goes through the ropes. They restart on their feet. Kanehara lands to Kid’s groin, but he is ok. Kid’s kick is caught by Kanehara and he gets the takedown. Kid locks in full guard and holds it. Kid goes for an armbar, but it is not close.

Both fighters trade leg kicks and try to land jabs. Kid is moving around a lot on his feet. Kanehara tries to get a takedown, but Kid defends and end up on top. Kanehara goes for an armbar, but Kid escapes. They scramble back to their feet. Kid kicks the legs and eats a counter. He catches another shot and is hurt in the middle of the ring. Kanehara jumps on top is half guard. He rolls and regains full guard. Kanehara moves to half and looks for a Kimura lock. Kanehara is on top in half guard but not doing any damage. Two shoulder thrusts force Kid’s head into the canvass. Right before the bell sounds Kanehara pass to side control.

Kid names a few inside leg kicks. Each time Kanehara threatens with a right hand counter. Kid names a counter of his own. More leg kicks from Kid. Kanehara throws a jumping knee and Kid lands a nice counter. Kid feints and stay out of reach of a the jab. Kid throws a huge shot and Kanehara just gets out of the way. Kid lands a left straight. Kid comes forward with a Left and drops Kanehara. He gets front headlock and lands several knees. Kanehara drives Kid through the ropes. They restart in the center.Another left lands. Kanehara lands a right.

12. DREAM vs. SRC: Tatsuya Kawajiri 25-5-2 vs. 11-2-3 Kazunori Yokota
Round 1
Yokota lands two leg kicks and a right hand. Kawajiri closes the distance and throws Yokota to the ground. Kawajiri tries to work inside the open guard. Yokota scarmbles then lands an upkick, but Kawajiri gets back on top. The referee turns them away from the ropes. Yokota tries to turn away but Kawajiri catches his legs. Kawajiri gets one hook, but loses the other. Yokotoa gets to his feet and lands a knee. Kawajiri shoots for a double leg. He gets it and lifts and slmans Yokota. Yokota turns again and Kawajiri catches the legs. Kawajiri takes the back and then the mount. Kawajiri starts to work short punches. The referee restarts them in the center. From the mount Kawajiri laces the legs. Yokota rolls to his side, but he can’t escape the mount. He gives up his back. The bell rings.

Yokota throws a leg kick to start the round. He then lands a hard jab. Kawajiri finishes a double leg in the corner. Yokota works an open guard with his back against the ring post. Kawajiri passes to half. He has the feet past, but there is no room for the mount. Yokota stands and eats a few upper cuts. Yokota lands an overhand right. Yokota throws a head kick that misses. He follows up with a leg kick. Yokota lands a body shot, but Kawajiri finishes another double leg and gets the mount. Yokota tries to scramble. For a moment Kawajiri traps the arm and lands some heavy shots. Kawajiri gets the back. Kawajiri locks on a head and arm choke. It looks tight. Kawajiri can’t clear his legs. He moves the mount and lets the choke go. He postures up and lands some heavy ground and pound. Yokota gives up his back and then back the mount.

Yokota tries to work his jab and leg kicks. Nothing serious lands. He throws a hard right that doesn’t land. He comes forward with a wild combination and they clinch. From the clinch Kawajiri works for a double leg. Yokota is down with his back against the ring post. Kawajiri secures the mount with Yokota’s head on the second rope. The referee brings them back to the center. Kawajiri lands a few solid right hands. Yokota tries to roll, but Kawajiri does not let him and lands hammer fists. Yokota gives up his back. Kawajiri works for a head and arm choke. He gets side control. Yokota starts a scarmble, but Kawajiri is able to keep his position. Yokota tries to scramble out the back and gets caught in a reverse triangle and then an armbar. The arm looks extended, but there is no tap. The bell saves Yokota.

11. DREAM vs. SRC: Hideo Tokoro 25-21-1 vs. 21-10-3 Jong Man Kim
Round 1
Outside leg kick lands for Tokoro. Kim comes forward with wild shots and Tokoro gets out of the way. Kim goes for a takedown and eats a hard knee. Tokoro nearly lands an uppercut. Tokoro lands a shot to Kim’s groin. Tokoro throws another leg kick. Overhand right from Kim does not land. Tokoro goes for a knee and falls to his rear. He quickly scrambles back to get his feet. Tokoro drops to his back. Kim comes in Tokoro rolls and scrambles back to his feet. Tokoro scores with a right hand. Both fighters land right hands in an exchange. Tokoro lands a right high kick. He gets the clinch and lands two knees. He then jumps for a flying triangle and then transitions to an armbar. Kim locks his heads and Tokoro’s head and hangs on. Tokoro let’s it go, and then transitions into another armbar. Kim defends once again and ends up on top. Tokoro scrambles and gets back on top.

Tokoro works a jab to the body. He then lands an outside thigh kick. Another leg kick lands. Kim throws a jab that is blocked. Tokoro throws two legs kicks that land unchecked. He comes in and lands a knee to the body but eats a body shot from Kim. Back-to-back jabs land for Kim. Kim lands a hard right hand. Tokoro goes back to the leg kick. They exchange and Kim gets the worst as he catches a right hand. Kim charges in, but Tokoro moves quickly. Tokoro lands a straight to the body.

Tokoro misses a left hook to start the round. He then lands an outside leg kick. Jumping knee to the body lands for Tokoror, but Kim lands a right. Tokoro goes for a head kick that misses. Kim comes foward and drops Tokoro with a right. Kim lands hard shots on the ground and even take Tokoro’s back. Tokoro rolls, but is not able to escape the hooks. Kim gets high and Tokoro reverses to half guard and then side control. Tokoro goes for an armbar and loses position. Kim frees his arm and stands over Tokoro. He then calls the fight back to the feet. Tokoro lands a right to the side of Kim’s head. He throws a hard ight to the body as Kim is on the ropes. Then he stuns Kim with a left. Two clinch knees follow. Kim fights his way off the ropes. Tokoro lands a series of rights and lefts and eventually goes down. Tokoro passes to side and then mount. The bell sounds with Tokoro working for a triangle from the top.

10. DREAM vs. SRC: Melvin Manhoef 23-6-1 vs. 22-9-2 Kazuo Misaki
Round 1
Misaki throws a right, but Manhoef is out of range. Both fighters throw a lot of feints. Manhoef throws a right hand that is mostly blocked. Misaki throws a jumping knee and an overheand left. Manhoef comes forward and drops Misaki with some shots. The referee stops the fight while Misaki is holding onto a leg lock. Another questionable stoppage from this referee crew.

9. DREAM vs. SRC: Hayato “Mach” Sakurai 35-9-2 vs. 30-15-7 Akihiro Gono
Round 1
Gono throws out an inside leg kick. Sakurai throws a few of his own. Gono throws a round kick to the body. Mach tries to come forward and eats a front kick. Mach comes forward and he lands a glancing left. He then throws a head kick that is blocked. Front kick from Gono. Gono lands a right hand and goes for a takedown. Sakurai lands a few hard shots and Gono gets the distance again. Mach with a leg kick. A right lands for Mach. Inside and outside leg kicks land for Gono. Mach goes for a lead hook. Gono ducks under and slams Mach to the canvass. Sakurai gets half guard. Mach throws hammer fists from his back. Gono works to pass the half guard.

Gono starts with an outside leg kick. Mach throws wildy and Gono ducks. Inside leg kick lands for Gono. Mach throws his own. Mach digs to the body with a left. Gono jumps in with a left and eats one himself. They also clinch but separate. Right straight lands for Gono. Mach lands a hard right hand. Gono catches a front kick and lands a hard straight to the body. Gono catches another kick and punches the body. Mach falls and Gono immediately passes to side control. Gono passes to the Slaverry and lands some short shots to the face. Mach tries to stand, and Gono transitions to an armbar on the other side. Mach taps after a few seconds.

8. DREAM vs. SRC: Hiroyuki Takaya 12-7-1 vs. 8-8-1 Michihiro Omigawa
Round 1
Takaya tries to work the hands. Omigawa closes the distance and press Takaya into the corner. Omigawa works for the leg sweep. Takaya loses balance, but stays on his feet. Omigawa keeps the pressure on with right hands. Takaya lands a few counter leads. A hard right lands by Omigawa. Omigawa backs up Takaya with a led left hook and then lands a hard right. Another stiff one-two lands for Omigawa. Takaya throws a front kick that catches Omigawa in the groin. Takaya lands to leg kicks to the lead leg. Omigawa throws a left and then a right. The right drops Takaya. The referee jumps in and ends the fight.

7. DREAM vs. SRC: Katsuyori Shibata 4-6-1 vs. 0-1-0 Hiroshi Izumi
Round 1
Izumi keeps his distance while Shibata works a jab for distance. One minute in and nothing has landed. Izumi throws a right and lands a leg kick. Shibata keeps working the jab from a distance and it doesn’t land. The referee cautions the fighters for not fighting. Shibata lands a glancing right. Shibata comes forward with a lot of shots. A few of them land, but nothing seriously lands. Izumi lands a right down the pipe. Two clinch knees land for Shibata. Hard leg kick lands for Izumi. Izumi works for the clinch and eats some knees.

Both fighters paw with the jab. Izumi lands a right hand. More feinting and distance finding jabs from both fighters. Two rights land for Izumi. Shitbata get the thai clinch, but eats a large number of shots from Izumi. Izumi comes forward and eats an uppercut. Izumi clinches Shibata in the corner and finishes a double leg. Izumi works for the mount, and frees his head. Shibata sits up against the corner, but is still mounted. Izumi throws some light shots. Izumi goes to turn Shibata off the ropes and Shibata stands up in the scramble. The referee cuts tape from Shibata’s glove. Right hand lands for Shibata. Uppercut to the guy lands for Shibata.

Shibata tries to work the jab. After a few exchanges he lands. Izumi gets hurt and rushes forward, but can’t finish the takedown. He rushes in again and eats two clinch knees to the face. Big right from Izumi is countered by a double jab. Izumi comes forward and lands a hard power shot. From the front headlock position Izumi lands some knees and moves to the mount. The referee moves the fighters back to the center of the ring. Izumi tries to posture up to strike, but can’t make distance. With 50 seconds left he starts to land serious ground and pound. The referee looks close to stopping the fight. Izumi tries another combination, but Izumi is arm weary.

6. K-1 Koshien (Highschool) Tournament Final: Masaaki Noiri vs. Shota Shimada
Round 1
Shimada circles and two exchange leg kicks. Noiri lands a hard counter right. Noiri lands a right hand as Shimada threw a kick. Both fighters throw and miss. Shimada tries to keep the distance with jabs and a front kick. Shimada misses an uppercut. Another front kick lands from Shimada. Noiri lands a right hand down the pipe.

Shimada circles again to start the round. He catches a kick and illegally sweeps. Right hand and leg kick lands for Shimada. Shimada does a good job landing his jab from the outside. Front kicks land at will. Body kick from Shimada. Noiri lands two hard lefts and then a right on the break. Noiri comes forward with a hard combination and the referee calls for the count even though there was no knockdown.

5. K-1: Ray Sefo vs. Yosuke Nishijima
Round 1
Nishijima comes forward with a jab and he eats a leg kick. Sefo lands two leg kicks from the outside. Nishijima bounces around in a classic boxing stance. Sefo lands jab. Nsihijima gets caught on the ropes and lands two hard right hands. Another digging leg kick lands. A left counter hook puts Nishijima on rubber legs. He jumps in wtih a left hook. Another hard leg kick leads to a knee for Sefo. Sefo puts out a stiff jab. Nishijima tries to work on the inside. A left hook stuns Sefo at the end of the round.

Nishijima jumps in, but Sefo clinches. Sefo goes back to the leg kick. Spinning back kick lands for Sefo, but not clean. Sefo looks clearly tired, but he lands a leg kick and a left counter. Nishijima forces Sefo into the corner and lands a few glancing shots. Three punch combination lands for Nishijima. Sefo puts his hands down and eats a jab. Nishijima trips and the referee stands him up. Sefo lands two hard leg kicks. Nishijima lands a few looping left leads.

Sefo works the jab to start the round. A right hand counter puts Nishijima down on one knee. He is up before the 8 count. Sefo tries a sidekick, but Nishijima avoids. Nishijima comes in with a right. Sefo lands a hard right counter. A crushing jab and right cross lands for Sefo. Hard leg kick lands. An upper cut and a right hand land for Sefo. Sefo throws a kiss to the crowd and throws and overhand right as the bell rings.

4. Super Hulk Tournament Final: Minowaman vs. Sokoudjou
Round 1
Both fighters start tentatively. Minowa circles a bit, but Sokoudjou remains in the center of the ring. Both fighters have yet to engage. Sokoudjou throws a leg kick. Minowa tries to catch it and presses him against the ropes. Minowa pulls half guard, but Sok stands. Minowa drops for a leg lock and Sok goes for some hard ground and pound. Minowa almost pulls off the heel hook, but Sok gets away. Minowa works for a double leg and then drops to half guard. Minowa stands and eats a knee. Sok is on top with the back. Sok works for the rear naked choke, but Minowa remains calm. Minowa reaches down for a foot lock but lets it go. The round ends with Sok on Minowa’s back.

The fighters are still not engaging on the feet. Minowa feints and circle. Sok stays mostly stationary. Sok goes for an uppercut but it doesn’t land clean. Minowa pushes Sok to the ropes with a double. He drops for a heel hook, but Sok lands hard shots from the top. Front headlock position for Sok. Sok throws a few knees but nothing hard. Sok is on top while Minowa sits up against the ropes. Minowa goes to half guard. The referee moves the fighters to the center. Minowa goes for a half guard sweep, but Sok lands some right hands. Minowa uses the half guard seep to pull for a heel hook. It looks locked in, but the bell saves Sok.

The fighters are slow to engage on the feet again. The referee gives both of the fighters yellow cards. Still the fighters are slow to engage. Two minutes left and no punches have been thrown. The referee pulls out another yellow card. Spinning back kick lands for Sok. Minowa comes forward with a huge right hand combination and drops Sok. The referee jumps in. The stoppage is questionable at best.

3. K-1 Koshien (Highschool) Tournament Semi-Final 2: Katsuki Ishida vs. Shota Shimada
Round 1
Ishida misses a kick and eats two from Shimada. Shimada catches a kick and trips Ishida. The two exchange kicks but nothing really lands. Ishida catches a front leg, but catch and sweep is not allowed. Ishida lands a counter right but eats body kicks. Shimada is keeping the distance and landing round kicks and knees. Spinning back kick almost lands for Shimada.

Ishida comes forward and lands a right. Shimada throws plenty of body kicks and lands a few. At range Shimada is landing almost at will.
