ProMMA.info product review: Silver Star Lyoto Machida UFC 104 Walkout Tee

The Silver Star website (www.silverstarnow.com) describes the Lyoto Machida UFC 104 Walkout Tee as: The Machida Dragon features a belt print with a burnout applique accented with red foil. Machine washable. 100% cotton. Price: $44.00 (add $2 for XXL or $4 for XXXL – no tax, except in Calif.) + shipping. They are offering free shipping on orders of $50 or more.

OK, I received my shirt yesterday. I must admit, ever since I saw Machida walk out in that shirt at UFC 104 to fight “Shogun”, I was like “dammmmn…” that’s a badass shirt and I want one. So I finally got it, opened the package, and my first thoughts were that it looks better even in person.

I’m sure the style and design is not for everybody, that’s why they make Ocean Pacific (remember when OP was cool?) But I like the Silver Star designs. Heck, if it’s good enough for the UFC light heavyweight champ, (and who can deny that Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida is 100% cool i.e. meditating in the Brazilian jungles on the banks of the river… getting slapped by Japanese Zen masters… waking up at 5 a.m. to drink urine…), then it’s damn sure good enough for me.

Seriously though, I’ve always had an affinity for dragons as it is. And the Silver Star style is cool. One thing that I soon noticed after inspecting the shirt was the high quality. You get the feel of a custom-made shirt, almost like it’s one of a kind.

The back of the shirt where it says “Silver Star Casting Co.” and has the dragon head below it – all of that is like one big patch. Imagine a biker’s jacket with the name and emblem of your “gang” sewn on it – that’s what if feels like.

The “Silver Star” letters on the front of the shirt have a red distressed foil on the bottom of the letters that merges with the black print on the top of the letters creating a very cool effect.

When you put this shirt on, it feels special. You feel like you are putting on something almost “magical.” I know that probably sounds corny, but it’s sort of like when you were a kid and used a safety pin to tie a bath towel around your neck for a Superman cape, you just feel special.

The 100% cotton material feels excellent. It is light weight which is very important. And it has a stretchiness to it also that is important. There is nothing worse than a shirt that feels constricting, you can’t move in, and feels like you can’t breathe. Big guys will certainly know what I’m talking about.

My only issue is with the sizing. I ordered a XXL. However, if I could have placed my order again, I would have ordered an XXXL. It feels just a little bit small for me, but believe me, it will not keep me from wearing it. I am a bit concerned though, when I wash it, if it will become too small. Hopefully, it won’t shrink too much.
