Who would have ever guessed coming into the match up between Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson and Houston Alexander, that the fight would last more than a minute, let alone go the full three rounds? Not only did the bout go the distance, but it took nearly three minutes before the fighters even engaged, with Houston Alexander doing Nascar-esque laps circling around the Octagon as “Kimbo” gave chase.

Finally, Alexander decided to initiate his game plan of picking “Kimbo” apart with kicks, zeroing in on his opponent’s arthritic knee. The action, or lack there of, initiated a smattering of boos from the audience, which expected fireworks from the usually aggressive fighters from the opening bell.

The second stanza lived up to the hype and more, with the ATT trained “Kimbo” showing off his newly honed clinch and ground game, introducing the world to the “Kimbo-plex”. The suplex set the tempo for the rest of the round as “Kimbo” dominated Alexander on the ground. “Kimbo” maintained top position and unleashed a furious ground and pound game on Alexander, clearly winning him Round 2 easily.

As the final frame got underway, it was apparent that both fighters were fatigued, with Alexander finally finding a home for a powerful leg kick that downed “Kimbo” Slice. “Kimbo” appeared to be in trouble, but worked his way back to his feet, then earned a take down to seal the deal, and possibly Alexander’s fate in the UFC.

The win moves “Kimbo” to 4-1 (1-0 UFC) and assures that the world will once again see the former backyard brawler back in the Octagon. “Kimbo” proved to fans worldwide that he has improved his overall skills and is serious about becoming a better mixed martial artist, but also acknowledges that he has a way to go.

“I’m sorry about that… we did our best yo,” Ferguson said over a chorus of boos following the decision. “You’ve got to give us credit. I want to thank ATT for everything, I’m still working on [my game] you know? It’s not easy.”

  1. No, I like it MIke!! who cares… Honestly, I hate to say this but I can’t think of another “good” match up for Kimbo at heavyweight – or even at catchweight. They will need to bring someone in if they want to help develop him in my opinion.

  2. Seriously I think they should have made Kimbo and Chuck coaches on the next TUF. I know Kimbo isn’t a coach and not that experienced but the show is designed to draw ratings and to me Kimbo with Chuck would draw better than Chuck and Tito. people have seen Chuck beat Tito twice already. People still think Kimbo is a good fighter so it and Chuck could use a win.

  3. There’s a few good things about Chuck vs. Tito. First of all we don’t have to worry about Chuck getting another concussion…. secondly… okay maybe that’s it.

I don’t think Kimbo should be a Coach on TUF like Dusty said, but I do think a fight between he and Chuck would be exciting. Can you imagine though if Chuck got beat by Kimbo… it would ruin his whole career.

  4. Dana White would never allow that. Lidell is UFC’s/Dana Whites golden boy. In the case Kimbo knocked out Chuck that would just would be devastating all around. However, I’d pay to see that fight. For sure.
