Projekt Label fighter Chad “Savage” George (10-4) was recently invited to Japan to train with the camp of Japanese Shooto legend Rumina Sato. Being that Chad has a fight coming up on Nov. 14 against Greg Guzman at “Called Out MMA 2,” he saw this as the perfect opportunity to train with some of the top lighter weight fighters in the world, and as a special treat for us he is keeping a blog of his trip. Be sure to check back each day to see how things are going with Chad during this very unique experience.
Today was the last day of training in which will conclude the amazing experience I have had training in Japan. Today we woke early to have a light breakfast and coffee leading into the most intense day of training thus far.
Today we had Lion Takeshi Shooto lightweight champion coming in with several of his students along with Mamura to join us in today’s sessions. I can honestly say I think this was the most world champions in one room possibly ever!
It was an amazing training group. Today was by all means tough. We started out with about an hour of stand up sparring, then 30-45 minutes of stand up sparring with takedowns. Once that was done we rested a bit just long enough to change from kickboxing gear to MMA gear. We then did about and hour 45 minutes of MMA sparring.
No its not over. We finished the day out with about 30 minutes of hard grappling! All in all, today’s training session was almost three hours of solid training. Holy shit do I feel like I’ve been in a car accident! But a great day of training.
After training, we all went to lunch at a Sashimi restraunt. As all of the other food, it was fantastic. Once done, Rumina took us up to the Odawara Castle. This place was so cool. It was an old castle that had been remodeled into a museum. At the top of the castle there was an amazing view of all Odawara!
We then split ways until tonight’s final dinner. Taiki and I did a bit of shopping and wandered the town until it was time to meet up with the ROOTS gang!
About 7 p.m. we showed up at the restaurant and met Rumina and a few others for dinner. As time passed more and more members from ROOTS gym started showing up. It was so great. We ate, drank Sake, made jokes and had a fantastic evening!
Leaving Japan is going to be rough. It deeply saddens me to say tomorrow will be my final entry from Japan.
