Living the life of the son of an MMA fighter can be just as grueling as being the fighter.  Dad drags me to the 5:30 a.m. lifting and cardio session with him.  After that it’s time to go home and get ready for Drysdale BJJ.  Now I get to go home finish my beauty sleep and eat some food.  Wake up and it’s time for a technique session then full sparing.

When I’m not in Vegas and back home in Florida the pressure is just as high.  My coaches expect more of me on the mat. My teammates expect me to lift more and be in better condition.  It’s either fall under the pressure or go out there and show them you can do more than asked.  And I push myself to do more every time.

My name is Dewey Franklin Trigg IV, born March 6, 1993, in Rochester, New York.  I’m currently a junior in High School, and I wrestle at 152 lbs.  And I am the son of Frank “Twinkle Toes” Trigg.

Following in his father's footsteps, Frankie is also a wrestler.

My Dad is no different than any other dad.  Actually with him fighting it’s better for us.  We only get to see each other once every few months or so, but because he fights not a 9-5 job we get more time together as a family and of course he takes me through the workouts with him to help me for wrestling

The first question everyone asks me is when are you going to start fighting?  The answer, always the same, NEVER!

Getting punched in the face doesn’t feel good at all. The little flash you get after a punch scares the shit out of me. What I do plan to do though is go to college and hopefully become a sports manager.

Sitting in the back end of the sport and I’m able to see these fighters get screwed by their managers. I don’t know much now but the right percent to take and have a brief idea on how to get these fighters out there and into the big show.

Another question usually asked of me is how is it to see your dad fight?  Well take the feeling of wanting to cry, pee, punch through a wall, and screaming, put it together, and that’s how it feels.

For his last fight against Koscheck, I just about passed out just in him walking out to the ring.  I was shaking during the fight.  And after the fight, well with outcome not in our favor, I was shaking and tearing up.  Most people go their entire lives with never seeing their dad get hit. I witness it as an everyday thing.

  1. I will never understand wrestling in Florida, or any warm place like that. It takes all the fun out of busting mad weight.

    Anyways…

Props to you Frankie for trying to blaze your own trail in sports management. Keep up the good work.

  2. Frankie,
this was a super cool piece. I enjoyed the way it was written and the insight. I’m looking forward to the next one.
